Been many questions on winding checks here but I have wondered why is it that you can get green trim rings, green butt caps but no one that I have found carries or offers green aluminum winding
checks to complete the sequence? If anyone knows a source for them i would greatly appreciate knowing who carries them. Tom Re: Winding check question

I cast my own from casting epoxy ,That means I can have any colour or variation of colours that I want. The epoxy that I use is different from the "rodbuilding epoxy" that we use as it sets a lot harder .Ihave been using this method for around for around 8-10 years & to my eye they look OK . That sounds like a good alternative. I also have considered turning acrylic ones on the lathe. Could also do as Bill suggests painting a silver one then clear coating it.
I just found it strange that you can get anodized trim rings and butt caps in green but not winding checks in the same color Thanks for the input. Tom Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/12/2015 11:11PM by Tom Wewerka. Re: Winding check question

Or powder coat plain ones like you would a lure.
Go up 1/2 mm in size if a snug fit before powder coating. Powder coating you can match aluminum butt cap and some reel seat components too. Minima 4 guides(keep rings clean of powder). Cheap 'TV' oven in garage works great for this. Go lower temps and longer time, lowest your brand of powder allows. Re: Winding check question
