Phil Just ream it out like you would for cork or EVA. I am sure that is why they made the butt cap removable on the newer style grips. Works perfect.

William there is a video of Cousins rods on Youtube, of them making rods in their factory. Near the end a guy has a rod in a lathe and is filling in the cracks and holes in the cork grips. He takes his finger and puts the material on while the rod is turning and smooths it down the cork. It turns out absolutely beautiful. It doesn't say in the video what the material he is using but it is

Thanks for all the input. Interesting reading too. My client had the two old rusty guides in a bag. They look very similar to the Pac Bay CSGB guides and she is ok with using them and a new tip top. It is not going to used anymore for fishing just a memory of the past. I believe that the thread wraps were spiraled on both sides of the guide foot and the thread is one piece. It wraps under t

A friend brought me this rod to replace the two guides on it. It is a St. Croix fiberglass casting rod. It is 4 ft. 10 inches long, and I was asked if I knew how old it might be. Not knowing I thought I would ask if anyone has any idea when it was built. On it is the number 145 ??
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

547. Rod Length question
Currently I have a customer with a Phenix M1 MX-78-B 7'8" rod and he says it lacks in power with the 5.5 tip. He would like a Rod Geek C4 in his colors. The only problem is that they don't make 7'8" blank. In order to get the same specs as the M! which is 10-25 lb line and 1/2-2 oz lure I see a couple of blanks that can be made to do this. He uses this rod for a variety of applicatio

Here is another thought if you want an exact match locally. I spent over forty years in the heavy construction equipment industry. These machines use hundreds of O rings and dealers have every size and every type available.
If you have a Caterpillar, John Deere, or Case tractor dealer near you they will have what you need.

I will try to answer your questions on the MVT reel seat. But I have a few questions too.
You can trim a reel seat as short as you want so long as when you put the reel on you have a full cover of threads under the barrel. I trim a lot of the larger mm spinning seats to get rid of excess threads and down lock the seat to put the threads up front but on a baitcasting reel seat that i

I have used the MVT quite a bit and I assuming that you are referring to the ALPS MVT reel seat. On all of the ones I have built none had a fore grip and I used the ALPS dimpled aluminum winding checks in front of the reel seat. The check depending on the rod diameter may be slightly larger than the end of the MVT but it still looked good and no one has made mention that it was larger.

I have never broken a rod.
One of my customers is a professional bass guide and he told me in 24 years he has never broken a rod !! If you could see him set the hook, that is an amazing statement.

553. Re: metallic thread
By customer request I did a rod with metallic thread in electric blue and purple trim. In less than six months he returned it , to re-wrap, because the entire rod looked like faded gray thread from the sun. Although I haven't had any issues with metallic green.

I agree with Robert on the SJ842, the 841 would be a little light and in order to get a good hook set and pull the hook through the worm and then into the bass that extra in the SJ842 would be the ticket. Also the wide gap hook puts the point and barb on the top of the worm and in lieu of pulling it through the worm, its already outside and I feel you hook up ratio will be much better.

Good point Jon. I called Krylon and told me 5 days minimum before using a clear coat ..

If you take Tom's idea and suspend from the ceiling make it like hanging ceiling lamps on a light chain to a 2 x 4 across. On both ends then connect the 2 bys with 3 or 4 inch PVC pipe. Put the blanks in the pipe and there is no support problem on the rods.
For that matter you can put the rods in the PVC pipe and store any where or how you want to.

Speaking of rod dryers Ken, have you heard any more on the elusive RDS or RD3 three motor dryer? I'd like to get at least one to try out.

Arthur This is the B thread I used on a micro guide in black. It sure looks black and clear to me. Shows up nicely on the rod geeks blank in Metallic Red too. Not sure why yours would be hazy, what finish epoxy did you use?

Just finished my first build using the B thread. I like it a lot, it's not much larger than A but I found it easier to use. It burnishes good and looks nice after the epoxy was applied. I thought it might be stronger for rods in the med hvy to hvy range although I haven't had any issues using A on them. I guess we'll see

The Pro paste is a great product. Normally I use the Fast Set because I like to put the butt grip on split grip rods first and let it cure before I do the rest. The biggest difference that I have experienced from other epoxies is that it has a little more working time before setting up which can be very important. However in an hour, shorter time than the others, you can handle it and continue

Frank have you looked at the NEW Winn grips. The ones just introduced at ICRBE this year? Definitely different, feel great and come in several colors as well as std. black. So far most everyone I show them to has bought a rod with them on it. They are easy to install as well.

569. Re: fuji's thread
Brian and Bill thanks for the input. Some really good information there. Sounds like really good thread and like Bill suggested I bought 6 spools to try out. One of the main reasons i have held off is because of the lack of colors. When you are trying to match older rods you built for someone the first thing they will say is, Hey the thread color is different. Not an issue on new builds an
