Guess I don't understand how water is getting through the finish to allow the corrosion, but I don't fish in saltwater either. I was under the impression you do not run CP off the wrap of a guide and onto the blank. For decals it's OK but not guides. Just something I saw on a tutorial though, not the bible!

After re-reading my post I should say you want to use a drill bit just a little smaller than the opening that the epoxy comes out of the syringe. Makes for a tighter seal. Heating the epoxy is the best way to get a better flow and retain integrity. I tried a needle from a syringe I got from my veterinarian and it had a pretty large opening but took more force than the plunger would stand, proba

Drill a small hole the size if an epoxy syringe through the cork, preferable the bottom of the grip, of the affected area. You'll know when you've reached the blank. Mix some epoxy, I use the two part flexcoat for handles, and pull the plunger from the syringe and fill it from the top. Fit the syringe tip in the hole of the handle and force the epoxy in. It will fill the void and should seep out

Ray, I harvest bark from the dead birch trees on my property, which sounds like that is not an option for you. I clean all the loose "paper" from the bark, cut into 1 1/2" squares and glue and stack them as even as possible, enough to make about a 3" section. I then put them in a quick clamp which I have drilled holes in the pads so i can clamp cork rings on a mandrell. Aft

Sorry to hear that Roger. Mine came powered up and ready to go. Luckly I can read the Japaneese instructions....NOT!! Little bracket modification, taped the magnet to the pulley and was counting em off. One thing I did, I have my chucked marked every 90 dgrees. I always use the same line for "0" degrees. I set the magnet at about 10 degrees in advance of the mark reaching "0"

Here is something I added to my power wrapper to help keep track where to install trim wraps, especially on the longer butt wraps. I found it on @#$%& $14

The flex additives used in automotive body repair is not permanent. It only allows handling of flexable panels and bumper covers without the paint craking for a short time, then is inaffective. My painters dont use it any longer either. The paint compenents today are pliable enough that flex additive is not needed as long as you have proper surface prep. Like Casey said, the adhesion promotors a

Sounds like your talking about thier multiple blank grab bags and you wont know what blank your getting until they arrive, all you know is they are 7 1/2 foot. I think you better wait until they're in hand to determine what guides are suitable. They could be anythin from UL action to heavy surf blanks. I get the impression they don't even know what they plan on sending you, thats the reason for s

Surgical tubing also works great for that. Just cut to desired lenghts and slip as many as you need on the blank. Holds nicely and just touch them with a razor and the pop off. I get mine through Mudhole.

Just wanted to add a little rave for a sponsor, Anglers Roost. I am building a rod for a raffle prize at the conservation club I belong to and ordered a 5/6 wt 201M reel from Anglers Roost. The reel is so smooth and the machining is flawless. I was so impressed I ordered a 7/8 wt 203M for myself. Seems to me to be and excellent reel for a super price. I'm sure my future reel purchases will

I made a birchbark disk last night, first one. It took me 10 pieces to get a 1/4" thick disc. Turned, sanded and finished with CA just for the effect and it is awsome. Is it normal to take so many pieces of bark to get only 1/4" of thickness? The article author states he glues 20 pieces and in the photo it appears that his stack of rings is about 1" to about an 1 1/4". The chu

I assume your talking about the base wrap, but either way I do it the same. I've only done a few but I found it helps me to strip one of the colors off a spool and stretch it out so it wont tangle and lay it next to the thread coming off the spool and wrap. I make sure my hands are clean plus wipe my fingers down with DNA and use fingers to feed and tension the thread. I use a power wrapper, so

The customer is always right...Build it the way they want it. I dont see spiral wrapping being any great advantage in this case because no matter how you wrap it, the reel always wants to flop over anyway, and when I've seen people fish this way the rod is rocking side to side while they reel. A total lack of balance no matter how you build it.

So after all my reading and expieremting with the CCS system I notice the two numbers to be most concerned with is ERN and AA. For me to get a grasp on all this I need confermation if I understand and utilize it correctly. So, if I had a request for a streamer rod, 9'-10'. Prefer a stiff rod for casting 185gr streamer express line and 3"-5" streamers. being cast from the front of a drif

I, admittingly, am intimidated by the CCS system but I am going to learn it. I want to be able to tell a customer the best suited blank for throwing a 7wt streamer line 200-250 grains with a streamer weighinig about 80-100 grains when wet. They think they want 7wt fast action 2 piece blank when it may require a 6wt from one manufucturer and an 8 or 9 from another. The CCS will take a lot of the

If the adhesive your using is a paste like pro bond, I 've had the same thing happen from compressed air pockets between the recessed grip and reel seat hood. Sometimes is tight is too tight.

I gave up on trying to letter with waterslide and inkjet printers...Ink is too opaque. It can be done but I dont like the results. I bought a Cricut cutter used for scrapbooking. I use graphics quality vinyl and it works good. The machine makes die cut leters down to 1/4". I would like to find a better font program but haven't found one yet. Colors are endless, even chrome vinyl is pretty c
