Rick,
I heard this long before forums and chat rooms. not even sure if it would be true with todays blanks. I would like to know if it is true also.
Hello? Myth Busters.......

I still spine, just for peace of mind, and usually find it is also the straightest axis of the blank. I always place the spine on top because thats how I was taught. Spiral wrap is no different. People get confused because they used to say spinning/fly guides are 180 from spine and casting are on spine. Either way you slice it the spine is on top, unless your attempting to create more lifting/hoo

Col,
Good information.
Scott,
Didn't mean to hi-jack your post but thread tension affects uniform thread color with or without CP as well.

67. Cork Jig
Anyone using a shimming system for cutting 1 1/4" OD cork in the checkerboarding jig?

For names I use a cricket cutter machine. I get some graphics vinyl from a local shop and cut names as small as 1/4 inch. Lable makers will probably not ptint in silver, gold or white. Cricket cutters are not that expensive and all that goes on the blank is the letters.

DYNAFLO SINGLE FOOT BLACK #6. Pro Wrap size "A". They arent wider than the diameter of the blank but they dont conform to it either. Thread comes off the barb and straight down to the blank at that point. I'm wrapping two identical blanks/components. The first went so fast and easy, the second is a real pain. The thread keeps slipping when starting and loosens when aligning guides unles

74. Guides too wide
When wrapping singlefoot guides on small diameter blanks , for lack of a better term, the "barb" that is close behind the foot ramp causes thread seperation.
I wundered if anyone files them off. I have taken the sharp angle off but still can't even pack the threads tight enough. I am thinking file them off and do a Forhan lock wrap. That should be sufficient to hold them in should'nt it

77. Re: JMX Blanks
Is it thier line of blank? I tied a 4 and 5 wt on thier netcraft blanks. More of a traditional slower action but they cast floating WF line real well, quite suprising actually.
I just noticed the JMX yesterday.

Skip it looks good to me. I wouldn't make it a down locking either. One observation, the foregrip and the butt grip is sloped smoothly towards the blank and the rear of the upper section of the rear grip has a pretty abrupt shoulder facing the lower grip. Just in my opion, that upper rear grip doesn't flow with the others. Very nice cork work overall.

Thanks

Your welcome.
Another bennifit of burnishing is the tag end that you pull under the wrap to lock it, you can use a little more pressure on them and make them almost if not totally undetectable.

Any rod building supply retailer will carry them. They are a hard, smooth, plastic spoon like tool pointed at one end. Use the rounded side and with light pressere you rub it accross the threads. It basically flattens and widens the thread to help close gaps. If your tension is too loose it will cause the oppisite and thread will move and cause gaps. The pointed end is handy to help manipulate an

Blotches can be caused from inconsistant thread tension and inconsistant thread packing. I dont pack thread. My thread tensioner has two nuts locked down so if I spin my spool backwards it doesnt loosen, even with slotted washers I've seen the wingnuts turn and loosen a bit. I try to keep a constant angle on the thread as it meets the blank and only manipulate thread as it climbs onto the

Craig,
The fastest way I know of to be able to tell what your wraps will look like with finish on them is to make a wrap, soak it with water and it will look as close to a finished wrap as using epoxy without all the mess or having to make a test wrap where the handle or reel seat will cover it.

You can get waterslide decal paper at most hobby shops. Its usually kept by the model paints. The best printer, at least when I was looking into them, was an Alps, no longer available and used ones were in the $400 range. prints from an ink ribon instead of ink jet, The problem with inkjet is the in is too transparent unless you use black. You cant print in white, silver or gold. If you use the w

Fishing rods and fishing poles (IRS No. 110). The tax on fishing rods and fishing poles (and component parts) taxed at a rate of 10% will have a maximum tax of $10 per article. The tax is paid by the manufacturer, producer, or importer. Add the tax on each sale during the quarter and enter the total on the line for IRS No. 110.

I also just did two split grips but I turn my own cork and came up with my own "design". I glued two rings to a solid rubberized but cap, turned to shape and dirlled them just shy of the butt diameter an slid them on from the back. I dont think there is enough taper in an inch of blank to be concerned with. Guess it depends on how long your "fighting" butt is. You may not eve

Sounds like you rod may not be level in the drier. I use a line level on the blank while it is in the wrapper/drier.
