Thanks Tom. Do you see any downside to using it on a spinning rod? (FSC Predator 1386)

This is the first BMNAT Heavy top I have ever ordered. (The top with the flange that extends back over the rod that you overwrap.) The rear of the frame is not welded to the tube. Is it supposed to be that way and the wrapping secures it or did I get a bad one?

How do you secure the cord at the beginning and end of the wrap? It seems too thick to wrap over itself like thread on a guide wrap.

These guys already have great prices (and service.) If they are having a sale it will be a good one.

To change the subject a little, does anyone have experience with the Recoil guides on a 10 - 11 foot surf rod. How do they handle bigger fish and do they restrict distance? Thanks, Bob

Walter, I throw 2 ounces 90% of the time. I have tried just about every major rod brand that is available and some that are long discontinued. The Rainshadow 1266 is as close to perfection for 2 ounces as there is. The folks I fish with say "Here comes the guy with the rocket!"

There is a noticable gap between the SU1264 and the SU1266. A 1265 that split the difference would be an interesting plugging rod.

Does anyone know of a spinning reel seat (in 16 to 20 id size) that is more comfortable on the hand than the standard seat? Holding a surf rod by the reel seat all day makes even my big paws sore. I've tried things like bat tape to cushion the seat but they are just clumsy.

Has anyone tried the Recoil guides on a surf rod? Are they strong enough to hold their shape when a 20 or 30 pound fish is pulling drag?

Thanks Mike and Tom, I understand about light over dark and any liquid that penetrates is going to make it darker. I think I am getting fairly good packing (I just started wrapping again after about a 20 year layoff so I have a lot to re-learn. I guess in a perfect world I'm looking for a cp that lays on the thread like a sheet of celophane without penetrating at all and just seals it so the e

Does anyone make a color preserver that does? Everything I have tried darkens light colored thread even on a white blank. It would seem like an ideal color preserver would sit on top of the nylon and not soak in at all thereby preventing the finish from "wetting" the thread.

Bill, I'm the guy who brought the belt sander into the living room to shape the EVA foam grips. It was one of those bachelor moments whose aftermath made me think there should have been a women in the house to say "DON'T YOU DARE DO THAT IN HERE!" Now, how big does that foam pad have to be? Bob

Would you use a sprayer to paint the blank? How do you suspend the blank to get even coverage and avoid drips?

Brian, I have both the SU1145 and the SU 1264 Rainshadows that Robert sells. (They are a great outfit to do business with.) My 1145 will zing a one ounce spoon or jig out of sight with just a flick of the wrist. It is light enough to fish all day but has plenty of power to handle good sized fish. The 1264 is a little softer but it is very forgiving and fun to play a fish on. I haven't found

The 1145 Rainshadow from Fishsticks is neat little blank. I've been using one for about 6 weeks and it really slings small metal and poppers. It handles fish pretty well too. I put a Quantum Energy 40 on it and 15 lb. Pline braid.

A lot of people are raving about Fuji's "Lowrider" guides for spinning rods and the biggest it comes in is a 20. I put a 20 as the collector guide on a Breakaway 123LDFC and with braid it works fine for both spinning reels and a 525 Mag. A high frame 20 should work on your setup.

Exactly my experience with the guys at FishSticks. They are knowlegable, friendly, and have some of the best prices in the country. They seem to enjoy interacting with the customer and treat a small purchase like it was the most important item of the day.
