Hi guys a friend of mine needs a dredge rod made. I know these are built short but not sure what length to make it. I also read that if these are built longer they can double as a deep drop rod for swordfish. So what should the total length be with a number 4 curved butt?

Hi all!
Is there a rule of thumb in how much distance or space there should be between real seat and blank when putting real seat on? I bought a 18 real seat that is tight to the blank so I was told that's no good so I went up to a 20. Now
There is a larger space between blank and real seat. But I'm wondering what would be the down side to just glueing the 18 tight to the blank?

Well not really. I read in the old posts that this blank was designed specifically for blackfish. It is also rated 6-16 oz lure which is a high rating.

Thanks guys! How do you think it will tolerate high sticking. I mean we swing anything under 7 pounds. Think it will blow up?

I looked around in my basement and happened to find a lami gbt841m that I never built. I must have bought this a while back because no one seems to sell them anymore. Anyway it's all graphite and I'm a little nervous about wrapping it for tog. I need it to hold 16oz in a pinch. Looks like a really strong blank... Any thoughts appreciated

Hi all! I have decided to get a renzetti machine after all. I have never heard anything bad about them. I was wondering if they make a thread carriage that can hold 4oz cones of thread? I'm looking at the website and can't tell thanks!!

Thanks for info Billy! Yeah I really don't know how much more money I want to put into this pac bay unit. It needs a foot petal and ALPs chuck for sure. But the drying motor is broke and I'm not sure I want to keep putting money into this.

No I usually don't wrap more than one color at a time. I do like the convineince of the double thread carriage though. I load my under and over wrap colors at the same time. I wish i could build my own rod machine or have one built with only the features I like. That's exactly why I started wrapping my own rods to begin with.

Ok so the chuck is better than mine. That's something at least. Never see these used so that may be good sign. I just wish I could get a side by side comparison that would show why each is at its respective price point.

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has "upgraded" from a pac bay wrapper w/ chuck upgrade to a custom power wrap machine. I have had to rule out the Renzetti because the thread comes from behind and that would irritate me. Is it worth it to get CPW? Why? I called the sponsor and couldn't get the person on the phone to explain why one machine is priced at 300 and another 500-800. I am wra

Hi all,
I am checking if anyone can recommend an inexpensive blackfish blank. Hopefully under 70 bucks? Looking for mod or fast action that can handle 12oz sinker. Any ideas? My buddy is short on funds so I'm trying to get him something less expensive.

I have been reading prior posts on this topic and still am undecided on "upgrading" to a custom power wrap machine. I have the standard pac bay power wrapper I bought 6 years ago. I am in the process of upgrading the chuck and the foot petal. The only two problems I have had is with the machine is with the chuck and the foot petal. The chuck doesn't hold the blanks in even when wrapping

My overall problem with the pac bay petal is that I push half way down and it just barely turns the rod. Then I push down like a quarter inch more and it's at full speed. Hopefully a new petal will fix this?

You guys are awesome! Now I'm looking at the foredom petal so all I have to do is cut the wire it has and the wire of my current petal put positive to positive neg to neg and I'm good?

Hi all does anyone know of a foot pedal I can use to replace the one that came with my pac bay machine? Hopefully that would just plug in without splicing wire or anything. I like my pac bay machine but the foot pedal isn't very sensitive at all and it sticks some times. Any ideas? Thanks !

i have painted a lot of blanks i even went way over board and bought a compressor and spray guns. after a lot of trial and error using a bunch of stuff i found that spray max 2k clear is great. so if you spray dulicolor then coat with spray max it will look real nice. only problem is spray max is like 20 bucks a can and once you mix it you have to use it. all 1k or one part clears stink. permaglo

114. Re: heavy salt rod
I like the pac bay aluminum. I don't see enough difference between them and the others to constitute the extra expense. Have built several aliuminum butt rods for stand up/trolling tuna no one has complained. I think the difference in price has to do with manufacturing costs and china has cheaper labor than US or Italy. I could b wrong though

I feel they do need to be prepped. The smaller the thread you intend to over wrap the better this prep work must be to insure a smooth wrap of thread up the guide foot.

Ok what I mean is that when the blank is under load the line is in contact with the top of the ring opposite the guide feet and the force of the load would be pulling the guide down. So the guide isn't being pushed down like in a conventionally wrapped blank.

Hi all. I build fairly heavy saltwater rods and now I spiral wrap everything because its awesome. I use the bumper method to spiral wrap all my rods. Now when I build conventionally I always under wrap my guides to protect blank from downward force of line pushing down guide into blank. But now I spiral wrap and the 0 degree guide I still under wrap but is it necessary to under wrap the other 180

118. Re: warming epoxy?
I use large bottles of epoxy so I can't fit them in my pocket. I just bought two candle warmers and will try these I saw a how to clip of one of the sponsors using this method and it looks good to me. Especially since I have to lug hot water down to my basement like half pint on little house on the parie.

120. Uv light
I recently saw a uv light for repairs on a sponsors site. I think it is a cool idea and would be great on a bigger scale. I would like to do a whole rod at once. Maybe replace all the light bulbs in my dryer box with uv light bulbs? Has anyone tried this? I didn't find much when I searched
