Dredge rod for trolling

Hi guys a friend of mine needs a dredge rod made. I know these are built short but not sure what length to make it. I also read that if these are built longer they can double as a deep drop rod for swordfish. So what should the total length be with a number 4 curved butt?

It sounds like a lot of captains use electric reels mounted on the boat to work the dredges without any actual rods.

Mike,
I am not at all familiar with the application, but why couldn't a person simply use an aluminum beam to mount the reel on for the dredge?

Well I'm not that familair myself. I have no idea why he wouldn't do that. He just said build me a dredge rod so here I am. He is a good friend so I don't want to tell him how to fish. Captains tend to get rather sensitive about their trolling techniques. I wish I knew more all I know is I have a super stiff blank rated 130-unlimited, a number 4 pac bay butt, and two roller guides and a roller tip. Got a short grip to. Just wanted some input like " I build them 4 feet" or something like that.

We drag the dredge off a cleat with a deep diver. I would be interested also about a rod for it

Donna and Dean at Donart really helped me out with this. Hooked me up with an extremely stiff strong rod blank like 130-unlimited I think, a number four bent butt, some wind on rollers and I'm all set to go foul snag some jet skiers! Oh I mean "pull a dredge".
