61. Calstar gx-8
I love my calstar gx-7 for porgy seabass fishing! It has its limits though with lead it can hold which I feel is about 8 oz. now it seems fish are going deeper and more current doesn't always allow for 8oz. I was wondering if anyone has cut a gx-8 to hold 10oz?

I looked at the pictures and the rack looks great. Sadly this has to go half over a refrigerator so I wouldn't have the room to swing the whole rack down.

It's more for an illusion of security . I know nothing is completely secure. One lock would be better

Does anyone know how to build a Rod rack that would lock rods without reels on them. I am trying to come up with a ceiling mount rack to hold 5-8 rods that is lockable? Any ideas appreciated

Hi all I am told these are no longer being made by lamiglas. Any ideas of what the closest blank would be to this in action, taper, power?

Ha! I just watched a bunch of videos on the web of how people coat their rods. Yes indeed they are- 1) mixing less finish 2) applying it to Rod much faster than I do 3) dont use as much heat. I will recap for both my benefit and someone else with a similar problem. It seems that the viscosity of the epoxy has much to do about the ability to release trapped air. So the thinner it is the easier it i

I will use cp from time to time and I really don't think it makes the guide wrap weak. I think if I combine all these practices I should greatly eliminate the bubbles. I am cheap! Sorry this stuff is expensive. However I see that I am costing myself more in the long run.

Thanks Roger and everyone lot of good ideas here. I am going to start using smaller batches of epoxy and do one small batch per Rod. I will use a light coat at first to press air out of wraps then recoat 2 more times when dry.

I think I am also mixing too much finish at once. I am usually mixing 10cc of each and coating three rods at a time.

Ok Sounds like I'm boiling the finish then. Air bubbles are frustrating to say the least

I have recently been having a problem where I heat the finish over the butt wrap it breaks the bubbles up but more and more bubbles form. I then hit it with more heat to break up those bubbles and more come out again. I am using flex coat high build. Any ideas appreciated ready to start throwing things

I want to try one of these wraps. Will it work with gudebrod mat silver thread?

I did some diggin and found some posts from am tack stating that the duralite were comparable but not quite as hard as Alconite. I found another post that states Alconite to have a vickers rating of 1500. I suppose then that duralite would be somewhere between 1200-1400 in vickers hardness. This is all supposition but it makes me feel better.

Boo! I love those guides will the new aluminum oxide be as hard as the hardloy were? Can braided line be used with them? Thanks for responding it is hard to get direct comparisons to all the guide rings made with all the proprietary materials and marketing names. Here are some for free Powerlite, Megalite, and Hasselhoffoxide!

Does anybody know the hardness rating for the duralite rings? Are they harder then the fuji hard alloy I am used to?

Sorry I didn't see your post in time thanks again I'm gonna give this blank a shot I think

Actually one more question. Would cutting 9 inches from the top bring it to a 8 tube tip? Not understanding why the porgies were pulling off with braid? Was braid tied direct to rig? I use a 50 foot shock leader which I thinks prevents that.

Thanks so much for all the info! That's exactly what I needed to know doesn't look like this blank will work for me as I use braid.

So for anyone familiar with this blank in context of north east saltwater fishing any ideas on how much lead this can pull? Maybe cut 6 from the tip sounds like a nice porgy seabass maybe fluke blank?

87. Epoxy cleaner
Just wondering what you all think is the best chemical to remove epoxy before it sets or drys. I have been using goo gone but wonder if there is something better.

Donna and Dean at Donart really helped me out with this. Hooked me up with an extremely stiff strong rod blank like 130-unlimited I think, a number four bent butt, some wind on rollers and I'm all set to go foul snag some jet skiers! Oh I mean "pull a dredge".

Well I'm not that familair myself. I have no idea why he wouldn't do that. He just said build me a dredge rod so here I am. He is a good friend so I don't want to tell him how to fish. Captains tend to get rather sensitive about their trolling techniques. I wish I knew more all I know is I have a super stiff blank rated 130-unlimited, a number 4 pac bay butt, and two roller guides and a roller ti
