What is the purpose of making a spinning rod from a fly rod blank? I've always wondered. Do you use the light weight fly rod blanks, 1 thru 5 wt.? Just curious.

I think they're both great rods. I built an SCIV-SCII, 9' 5 Wt. over the winter and it has become my favorite trout rod.

Yes, it's one nut on an uplocking reel seat. It comes loose toward the butt end. So I guess I install an O-ring behind the nut in the direction it is loosening?
Can I buy O-rings at the hardware store?

125. Unlocking Nut Sequel
I also have an unlocking nut on my fly rod that keeps coming loose. How do I stop that? I didn't want to hijack the other thread.
Thanks

I'm interested in seeing the replies. I built a St. Croix SCII, IV fly rod and the single nut keeps coming loose during use.

127. Re: St Croix blanks
I built an SCIV-SCII, 9ft., 6 WT. and I love it for my needs. It will cast dry flies nicely, I have no need to cast more than 50 or 60 ft., plus it's stiff enough to fish nymphs. I would call it moderate-fast, but of course, we all interpret the feel of a rod a bit differently. I was looking for a rod that would fish dries and nymphs equally well and I believe that I have. My opinion.

That looks awesome. You just need to plug it in to the existing light socket?

I developed the same problem before I realized I was heating my finish instead of slightly warming it.

I put down a coat of finish first, and then write over that. It works fro me and also with decals.

What Bill said. I use the straw method and it works great for releasing bubbles. When I began building, and I'm by no means a a professional, I made the usual mistakes. Don't try to use your finish too long. If it isn't running freely, mix another batch. Another thing I learned is that if you're using an alcohol lamp or whatever, make sure you don't cook the finish.

I put my last, and what I thought would be my final coat of finish on my rod this past Wednesday. This morning I noticed a small dimple in one area and a high area near the corner of my decal.
1.) Do I need to scuff before I do touch-up today?
2.) Should I do the entire signature area?
Thanks

144. Decal Needed Quickly
Is there anyone that can make me a decal ASAP? I can't finish a rod until I get it. The rod came with a decal, but I'd just like to add: Made By Bruce Tomaselli. The rod is 3/8" wide where the decal will be placed. Any script font in white about 12 point will work.
Thanks
PS. I have ordered from sponsors here, but this came up out of the blue.

Does FishHawk variegated thread stay the same color without CP? I wet a wrap and it din't appear to me to darken much if any. Will the finish change it without using CP?

149. Thread Color
I have a St. Croix Imperial Rod Blank. I am no good at matching colors. To me it looks brown. Can anyone direct me to photos of these blanks with thread wraps visible? Winding some thread on and wetting it doesn't help me, I just can't match colors. I appreciate your help.
Thanks
I have a vareigated brown thread from Fish Hawk. What do you think?

Mine did the same thing even after following Mudhole's directions. The next time I will lay it down on the first coat of finish instead of right on the blank.
