You could also relieve a portion of the foregrip and recess a very small magnet to be used a hook/lure holder. Mark's idea is far most attractive, though.

Roger,
That's true. I'm a retired Patrol Deputy and I've seen things that would make people shudder. We just laughed them off and moved on. Never lost any sleep, but did get the occasional funny story. lol

33. Re: Cork dents
If the heat doesn't work, you may want to try moist heat. If you dent a gun stock and it's not too deep. a hot towel or a few mins. with a clothes steamer will usually pull them out nicely. Best of luck.

40. Re: What to do?
Mike,
I too have admired your work since I came to rod building. I was in your shoes a few years back. Granted, I do not to this day have the experience or skill you do, but I did run dry on motivation. In my case, money was a bit of an issue, but I could have weathered the storm. I got rid of a ton of stuff, a full pro shop to die for. I sold it for a very fair price to a very excited an

Congrats Dale. Good selections for a good pack rod. I like these since they make backpacking with a rod much easier. Add a "casting bubble" to your kit and that 4 pc. can through small presentations a long way even in shallow water and not spook fish! Try ti some time. A lighter leader and a fly makes it even more interesting. Continued luck.

The Mohawk Valley (NY) Chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting it's annual Salmon Expo this April and they have asked me if I would accept a booth to promote rod building and repair. I have agreed and am working on a slide show presentation along with demos and videos runnning on a TV. Thanks Ken. Feeling much better and planning to dive in with vigor!! Wish I could make it to ICRBE but have a conflict. Next year for sure. I'll be hooking up with NERBS in the near future and hope to visit with some builders throughout the year as well. Have a new Renzetti on the way, spending big money on tools tends to motivate! lol As always, if you're in CNY, let me know. All are we

Hi all,
It's been a long time since I've posted. I've been asked by our local TU chapter to promote custom rod building, rod supplies and rod building classs at their annual Salmon/Trout Expo in April. I plan to display some books, videos, components, catalogs, give demos and run a slide show or power point presentation. If anyone has any photos of their work or anything else they are prou

From Charlie's book, "... I use and prefer the shorter rods, four foot three and the five foot. The rods are extra , extra light and have a very good backbone........equipped with large guides... the famous Tennessee Handle..." The pictures of him landing Bass that appear to be in the three pound range have the rod bending slightly in the upper third. From other entries, it would se

This all is true and possibly the scariest part, is that no one knows how something will impact them until after the fact. How is it that someone can work or be exposed to toxins for decades and show no ill effects and their neighbor uses a household cleaning product once and is stricken for life? I once met a gentleman who's job was doing research on houselhold chemicals and their interactions

Thanks guys. I'm going to try at least one with the Flexlite or Recoils. The idea of flicking the ice off sounds good to me. Don't know why I never thought of it. Anyone else got a preference? You've got to love this forum, no matter how long you've done this or been here, sooner or later you pick up ideas. Thanks to Tom and all that pass here! If you're ever in or passing through CNY, loo

I'm getting ready to build a few new ice rods for myself and got wondering, "what are other builders go to guides for ice rods?" Personally, I prefer a larger IO guide so I don't have to deal with ice-up as often. I'm in Central NY and it can get cold and nasty out there! I like my rods light and sensitive so it's a trade off at best. I build most of my personal rods at 18 - 22"

OK Alaska guys. I have a question for you. Headed up in June for my first trip. My girlfriend is on her 4th. My job, to find a guide for some fishing in the Kenai pen. area. Looking to spend a day fishing for as many species as we can. Float trip, bank or wade or combo. Too many to choose from without some god info. Anyone willing to help? let me know where you are and maybe we can shar

I plan to cast 1/64 to 1/16oz lure and live bait. THe rod will double as a casting bubble rod and the use of floats (very light). Inline spinners, tiny jigs and such will be used. Not much in the way of weed or brush, streams mostly. Looking to impart action to lures via the action and fast tip. Want to see how it play out. Thanks again. SIze of water will vary greatly as will the depths.

Hey folks, been along time since I've posted. A quick question based on your personal fishing experiences and preferences...A blank no less than 6'6'' for Trout and Panfish with a fast to extra fast tip. Lures from 1/64 oz. Highly sensitive. I know what I've seen and felt, not how about input on your experiences. My preferences? Open to all options at this time as far as length, grip desig
