For exposed reel seats you can probably go from 10.5 to 13. 9.5 is fairly small for a bass blank. For full reel seats size 17 in both spinning and casting would work. 6' 6" Med power for spinning rods and typically 7 to 7 6" in med-heavy power for casting. Add 6 ring 6- 6.5 tube to your tip selection to cover the heavier rods.
The exposed seats you may want to have the blank on hand fi

If it were me I wouldn't stock too many blanks. The reason being each person has their own idea what a perfect blank for an application is; you would go broke keeping up with that. However, you could stock up on components such as Fuji alconites in sizes 25j-8jl and Fuji fly guides size 6. These guides are fairly common choices. You then could just order the blank when you have an order and then

63. Re: epoxy advice
1)Measure the amounts of both parts of epoxy evenly and accurately
2) stir for the reccomended amount of time (no short cuts)
3)mix thoughly but not violently so to introduce the least amount of bubbles as possible
4) once mixed pour onto a piece of aluminum foil to help extend pot life
5)Apply epoxy with a spatula (I use a brush with hardened epoxy on it) with long, steady strokes, and wipe

I haven't built with the REC micro guides. However I have built several spinning rods with REC guides. I definately prefer the RSPG series of guides and use those in size 6 for running guides as oppossed to the REC single foot REC light fly guides/spinning guides as runners. In my opinion, not that it matters, the RSPG guides look better and cleaner than the REC light fly/spinning guides. If it w

I am with Jim i use the fuji TFST Top. The color matches well and the fuji tip looks a lot better than your recoil option. The fuji TFST goes down to a 5.5 ring. If that difference is a big deterent then you could go with the fuji TFCST or Fuji TLGST which are fuji titanium SIC micro series and that will get you down to 4.5 size ring. Hope that helps

Tom,
Where you at in Virginia? I am near GMU. I would be happy to help you get started and teach you everything I know about building rods the wrong way.

I am with Garry,
I prefer 7 ft 6 inch or 7 ft rods though longer rod do have benefits.
Mostly use SC II blanks though I have a MHX and Rainshadow that are nice also. However, there is something to be said for lighter rods as heaveier weight rods can wear you out if you are throwing big baits all day.
I also prefer full length grips instead of split grips.
What baits are you throwing?

That would be the problem you need to use the "142" series. I have a spool close to 7004 in 142 series. Do you want me to send it to you so you can finish your job? If so shoot me an e-mail.

I have been using sulky metallics for years (metallics starting with 142) and never use color preserver and have not had an issue. Did you use the Sulky metallics starting in 142? I do however check for bubbles and "flame" as needed before i leave the room. I also have never stripped off line. Is this something new Sulky has started using silicone in metalic "142"?

Thanks for the feedback it is what I figured right blank for the application. Have alot of experience with the sc3 cranking blanks but wanted to know what I figured "the scv cranking blanks are much more sensitive". Thanks for your feedback.

A customer wants a st.croix rod blank that he will be able to feel a 1/2 rattle trap ticking the grass. He currently has a sc3 6'6" moderate action med-heavey power that doesnt really work for him (can't feel the grass but works well for dd-14 and dd-22's).
I am thinking an scv in this blank 5C72MM-B 7'2" 1 8-14 1/4-5/8 M MODERATE Bass / Walleye .428 5 1.40 am I on the right track

Also longer handles with a light taper to them. Casting big lures all days fatigues your hands so it helps to mover your hands around and a slight taper also allows for tighter/looser grip thus varying the grip tension needed throughout the day. Make sure to use a reinforced tip and guides that are capatible with braid.

Either of these would work. Good enough for light lures and capable of handling anything except the specialty "POUNDER" dawgs and other 6+ ounce baits. Up there if he is trophy fishing, since it is a premier trophy lake, he may want to have a xxh rod for throwing those baits. I prefer longer rods but a 7ft will wear you out less (but more difficult for figure 8's). I have both of these

Glue about three cork rings onto the end of the cork grip and then turn it down to the same diameter as the fuji reel seat. That is what I do.

1. You can install the reel seat a couple different ways:
a. cork tape first stopping where the reel seat would be installed. Then install a foam grip/handle then arbor your reel seat and ream out to fit against the foam grip/handle. Then install the top handle/grip then cork tape again then an epoxy ramp from cork tape to blank.
b. sometimes you can cork tape past where the reel seat would

Is this a spinning rod or casting rod and if spinning is there a cork insert to go with the skeletal components?
If spinning I glue the skeletal components to the cork insert MAKING SURE that the hoods line up so that the reel will fit into the hoods.
After it dries I bore out the insert and glue it on the rod.

I have done two Blue tiger wraps: The first was a metallic black with a metallic pearl (both sulky threads) under with royal blue metallic over (gudebrud) it came out
good but the pattern wasn't broken up in islands or blothces just random tiger stripes. The second blue wrap I did was sulky thread blue and silver under with a dark blue (gudebrod) over. This pattern came out VERY disrupted. I be

Another option for surf rod handles is, Polyolefin Heat Shrink Tubing, it shrinks 50% and comes in multiple sizes and colors
including clear. Shrinks with a heat gun. Google Polyolefin Heat Shrink Tubing see what you think. I have tried it on two rods without an issue
and have found some vendors on line who sell by the foot. It seems to be slightly thinner than the x-wrap shring tubing that al

83. Re: Orange Candy
That would have been me. Thanks I had to do mine in Sulky silver under Pro-Wrap Goldfish....wanted to match the
orange and silver abu ct mag I had. I worked perfectly as I tried different color combo's before I wrapped the rod.
I did try the 221 but it turned too dark with epoxy. By the way nice wrap.

To fill in holes with cork dust I use Elmers wood glue in golden oak color then sand with light grit sandpaper. If I am using cork dust
to fill in the reamer hole in the butt grip I mix the dust with Rod Bond into a paste.

Just acquired my friends forecast power wrapper. Was wondering besides the new ALPS chuck what modifications are reccommended.
My friends said something about the stand rollers sometimes slipping and that there was an adjustment to make but since he hasn't built rods in 5 years
he couldn't remember what it was. I will be calling Baston later when they open but hoping to get some info before th

I was going for a candy apple orange effect. And it is the thread color not the size. The neon orange pro wrap, though it is nylon, will not turn transluscent. I did use
another shade/color in "D" and it worked.
