A couple more tiger questions for those who have more experience with them.
I am doing one that I need to show up more as blue, I plan on using blue, black and silver thread. Should i put blue and silver under and black over or black and silver under with blue over? Next question, have you done a wrap on a small diameter, say 1/4"? how did it turn out? ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: More tiger wrap questions

Use contrasting colors underneath. They determine pattern. Use you color on top. Top layer determines color. Blue over or it won't be blue. Right Tom? Bryce Abbott Go & Do Likewise Re: More tiger wrap questions

I have done two Blue tiger wraps: The first was a metallic black with a metallic pearl (both sulky threads) under with royal blue metallic over (gudebrud) it came out
good but the pattern wasn't broken up in islands or blothces just random tiger stripes. The second blue wrap I did was sulky thread blue and silver under with a dark blue (gudebrod) over. This pattern came out VERY disrupted. I believe because the two blue more than likely overlaped at some places and thus causing more disruption (I did burnish the same for each). Hough it could also be a that I got more thread movement on one than the other. The blanks I wrapped them on where RX8 Rainshadow 782 which are very thin in the butt for a bas rod, but thick compared to a fly rod and they came out nice. One thing that sort of happens on a small blank is that if you build up a lot of coats of epoxy then towards the tip of the rod you start to get a "ramp" type of effect if you don't make sure you taper the epoxy. One way I did this was to add a sticker after the tiger wrap followed by a trim band to help make a smoother transition. If you shoot me an e-mail I will send you the pictures of the two wraps Hope this helps, Dan Grulke Re: More tiger wrap questions

I you want maximum blue color, use black and white on the bottom and blue on top.

Don,
This one was done on one of the Mud Hole CRB 5'6" blanks. I don't recall the blank diameter in the area, but the butt is only 0.335". It came out pretty well. [www.rodbuilding.org] Joe Re: More tiger wrap questions

[www.rodbuilding.org] Here is the same base with orange on top: [www.rodbuilding.org] This is a metallic black and white under wrap and black over but the metallic white gave it a greenish tint: [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: More tiger wrap questions

I found for for me the best for this style of wrap was to do black, white and metallic blue underwrap. Then use whatever blue you have chosen for the top wrap. This way you get the subtle metallic blue shift in the pattern. I did one a little while back in the same underwrap but with metallic green instead of the metallic blue. Then I used another green for the top layer and it came out stunning. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
