I've been using spirals with 2-8 lb line for nearly 30 years on my light and ultra-light baitcasters. Spirals are a necessity with the light rods to keep the tip sections from twisting in an alarming fashion when loaded. They work great with light line.

I have used 4 and 5 wt fly rod blanks built as spinning and casting rods for 20+ years to white bass fish.I rarely catch a 4lb fish, but occasionally have caught catfish , walleye ond other species that go 10 lb+. In fairly upen water they handle these fish easily. The brush in your streams could make it questionable with the fly blanks in this range but they have a lot more power than one would

What's the best way to glue cork to EVA? I use epoxy for cork and contact cement for foam but don't know which will work for cork to foam.

I`ll second your wish about the Lami spin-jig XMG 700. It is , in my opinion, an absolutely fabulous crappie and white bass vertical jigging blank. PLEASE bring it back and promote it as a panfish blank, for that application it is a real jewel.

Tim , Steve certainly has given you great advice, but I go about it slightly different. I like to adjust the mechanical brake ( tension knob) to a place where it isbarely contacting the spool, in some situations it will need to be slightly tighter. I do not control spool speed with my thumb , but with different combinations of centrifugal brake blocks and weight of oil on the spool bearings. Of

Tim, I have been using baitcasters to throw !/8 and 1/4 oz jigs to white bass on wind blown flats and points for over 20 years and at times I have thrown 1/16 oz . My rods are spirals made from 3, 4, and 5 wt fly rod blanks that are 8 to 10 feet long. Until the last few years my reels were early model Ambassadeur 5001C`s that I tuned for my application. I use 4-8 lb line. I now use some of the

Check out the Lamiglass XMG spin and jig blanks. They aren`t cheap, but I feel you get tremendous value for the money. I don`t do a lot of bass fishing but I think one of this series of blanks would make you very happy. I claim to be no expert but in my opinion the Lamiglass XMG`s are wonderfull blanks worthy of a look by anyone seeking a great fishing instrument.

The beauty of building your own rods is that you can develop rods that match the type of fishing that you do . My fish of choice is white bass and after 30 years of fishing for them I have built rods for each fishing situation I may encounter. My wife thinks I am nuts when I leave for the lake with a rod locker full of gear in my boat. It gives me great joy to be able to reach for a rod that gi

I have only one XMG 50, the discontinued LSG700. It is simply an awesome panfish rod for vertical jig fishing. PLEASE bring it back, in fact , add a spin jig that`s 5` 6" and rated for 1/8 oz jigs. If lamiglass would push these as panfish blanks they would sell alot of them. I will definitely buy more XMG50`s.

Mo, I guess I didn`t make myself clear enough. Since most of my fovorite spin jig blanks have been discontinued, I was wondering if any crappie fisherman could recommend a spinning blank that he likes for vertical jigging 1/16 -1/8 oz jigs iin app. 20` of water. When I referred to the lightness of the LSJ700 I meant power and not weight. This is one fabulous blank, to me Lami is really miss

The top of the line Shikari`s have been discontinued by ATC, and while the Loomis` are fine blanks, I am looking for other options.

I have a 5`9" St Croix SCV that I built with Fuji TATSG`s ,16 and10 plus 4 TLG 5`s and it is an outstanding rod but too slow for what I`m talking about. I also have a Lami LSJ 720 ( now woefully discontinued) that is an AWESOME blank and is my favorite. I fish 2 or 4 lb mono , or 5 or 8lb braid. The Lami is great but at times I would like a similar rod just a bit lighter.

The spin jig blanks have a little more beef in the butt and mid section that coupled with a fast delicate tip make excellant vertical jigging rods for fishing 1/16 and 1/8 oz jigs in 20` of water. I`ve fished spinning blanks that work well, but for my preference, don`t fill the bill as well as the spin jigs. The list of short UL spin jig blanks now seems to stop with G Loomis blanks. I am allway

It is becoming harder and harder to find short ( 6` or less) , light ( under 1/4 oz ) spin jig blanks for crappie fishing in 15 to 30 feet of water. Do any of you have a favorite spinning blank that meets the above criteria? Thanks in advance.

I live in Kansas and and occasionally fish wind blown flats on nearby reservoirs for channel cat. To get to productive water it takes a relatively long cast. I started with medium heavy steethead rods and they worked good but I needed a little more rod . Next i tried Batson 10 1/2` composite drift rods ( throwing 1-2 oz) and they were better. The next step was a Batson 1264-F surf rod blank. T

At times it`s a tough sell to tape the reel to top of the line rods (even to myself), but I still think a cork handle with no reel seat is the most comfortable and efficient set-up. Certainly in cold weather. One thing I do is sand the grip flat (or slightly oval) where the reel is mounted and then sand a shallow groove around the grip ( the width of slightly stretched electric tape) at each en

I have one question concerning the use of thread containing silicone. Do you have to clean your thread tension and thread guide equiptment after using these threads to avoid contamination of future thread used?

I just built on a Lamiglass LSJ700, 5' 10" Spin Jig 1/32 - 1/4, 4-8# line, weight 11/16 oz. (sadly now discontinued, an awesome white bass jigging blank). I first placed Fuji BYAG 16J, 10J, BLAG 6J,6J,6J, 6J, 6J, and a BFAT 6J-4 tip. Then I tried ( both set-ups were attached with rubber tubing )Fuji TATSG 16J, 10J, TLSG 5J, 5J, 5J, 5J, 5J, and a TFST 5-4 tip. I expected some difference, b

I have built many spinning rods out of 8 to 10 ft, 3, 4, and 5 wt fly rod blanks made by several manufacturers. I make them for fishing for white bass on wind blown points and flats. My favorites without question are the ones I have built on St Croix SC IV blanks. 5 wt`s throwing into the wind, 4 wt`s with the wind at your back. They perform great and a 2-3 lb white on with over 100` of line

I have a couple questions concerning Fuji concept guides. Is the height of a TATSGJ the same as a TYSG J in an equivalent size? Which is lighter, a TYSG5J or a LSG35J? Thanks in advance.

I want to build a rod for vertical white bass fishing. I will be using 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs, 4 or 6 (and rarely 8) lb test line, in 15 to 25 feet of water. I am leaning toward a St Croix 4S60LF. I am also considering a 4S63MXF but fear it might be too much rod for the size fish (1 to 2 1/2 lbs) I normally pursue. Any input or other suggestions will be appreciated.

I am building on a 5' 9" St. Croix SC5 . The rod will be used for vertical crappie fishing. I prefer a natural cork Tennessee handle with the reel taped on ,but I want to try something different, maybe use a reel seat with burl or maybe a Tennessee handle with exotic burl. Does any one have any non-natural cork and/or reel seat suggestions that will closely match the performance (sensi
