Hello, I fish in local Florida bass tourneys as a co-angler. As a result I do almost no actual flipping, as flipping is so quick and thorough, that the boater pretty much positions the boat and can hit all the spots. What I do is pitch. But it also frequently punching, I.e. Creating your own holes so as to fish water not touched by the boater (and likely few others as well). My question is

Hello, the specs of these 2 models caught my eye. I see them listed as Walleye series R8, for casting bottom bouncers, but they are also listed as multipurpose. I'm wondering what bass purposes they might be good for? XCW70HM. 7'. Line 10-20 lbs. lure wt 1/2 -2 oz. mod fast. Heavy action. Couldn't this be a nice flipping stick, or even hvy carolina rig/football jig? Has

Thanks, but I was actually sort of asking if a given manufacturer lists a lure weight range, is this fairly reliable, useful information? If it matters, Florida bass fishing, limited rods available, unknown depth as you aren't controlling the boat but it's Florida so likely max 15-20' techniques likely as above: 1/8 jig withtrailer (1/4 oz), unweighted senko (3/8 oz), 1/2 oz jig with trail

Hello, Fairly new, and trying to pick out a versatile blank (fishing as co-angler). I get the general idea of power and action, and that it can be hard to compare across manufacturers. My question is rod ratings for lure weight. I can find several blanks by differing manufacturers list for 1/4 to 1 or 1 1/4 oz lure weight. Most are fast action, some are MB. Will these rods really cast well wi

Hello, I've heard a lot about the versatility of hot shot blanks. I fish as a nonboater, so was thinking of trying to build a couple, hoping I could use it for Senkos, light jigs, small poppers and squarebills, drop shot etc. I know it probably wouldn't be the best at any of this, but hopefully will be adequate. I've decided the Rainshadow Hs9001 for one. The second I'm trying to decide whethe

Thank you, Good point on making the boater go get them! I was planning 40# braid with a 20# FC leader. I wonder if the Castaway BB1 would load well enough for accurate low pitching of a 3/8 jig with trailer? Craig

Hello, Fishing as a non-boater, so trying to maximize rod duties. What I'm wondering is how strictly one need pay attention to a blanks reccomended lure weight when pitching? I'm concerned on both ends of the spectrum. Say a given blank is rated as fast, 3/8 to 3/4 oz. If I'm pitching a 1/4 oz jig with a no. 11 pork frog trailer, I'm likely at 3/8 oz or so, but will this load enough for a g

I realized that there are EVA butt plugs, etc made for the woven tubing, but it seems to me that this would mute the resonances I'm trying to achieve. Anyone have any suggeustions on what to use to cap the foreward and butt of a Tennessee woven spinning handle? Thanks! Craig

Okay, spinning rod build. I'm wondering whether y'all would reccomend tying the reel direcly on the woven carbon tubing, or use a graphite plate seat tied on? By the way, does anyone have a part number for the Fuji graphite plate seat? I find lots of stainless... Thanks! Craig

I'm no rodbuilder, just a fisherman (and luremaker). But I know an outfit called Airsick Stencils makes a mini digital camo stencil. Of course that would then result in the requirement of you painting. I know I read here that at least one blank manufacturer will paint a custom color with an upcharge. Perhaps you could do tan blank, light green and light brown wraps, and a composite tubing full sp

Thanks All! I'm looking at 40# Power Pro Hollow Ace braid spliced into say a five foot fluoroleader without a know. I know guide weight becomes more importand as you reach the end of the tip, if I do a larger guide at the tip shoud I tie in a sz 6 recoil guide a a tip or does the thread about equal the weight of a tip tube? Thanks Again, Craig

Thanks, but it will likely be 1/8-1/4 total., i.e. 3-4" unweighted senko, crappies sized bass jig without trailer, or small tube. Since pitching is a wrist flip method, rather than using the whole arm, I'm thinking whatever I end up with should have a ex fast or fast tip to load in a short arc, would this be correct? Craig

I didn't want to hijack my own thread, but I had a second question: How do micros work with pitching? My reading past posts seems to make it seem like it would be ideal, as better line control would allow for a further more accurate pitch, no? But what I didn't see is how the drag is affected by using micros over traditional guides. In pitching, I use the spool to control the pitch but more

I'm hoping for reccomendations on a pitching suitable blank that can be finished about 7' 6" (give or take), that will load Easily with 1/8 to 1/4 ounce baits. I'm Co-Angling, and trying to finesse pitch after my boater has been working the mats. I'm in Florida. I was thinking 40# braid with a short 20# topshot. I need enough power to drag 'em out usually so I don't PO my boater, but a tip

Well, I'm currently going to be without a boat for the next few years, so I am thinking about joining a club and becoming a coangler. I'm looking to limit the number of rods to about 4. I need to be able to flip unweighted Senkos/small dense jigs, Moving baits, and perhaps someyhing very light for finnesse ultralight?? I don't really do topwater, and am hoping if my boater is punching cover o

Interesting, Thank You! So now my understanding is that micro guides are light enough that small differnces do not affect measureable performance changes. So micro recoils are used when looking for the durability/corrosion performance. Also from what I garnerd above, there is no real world difference between say, a 3mm and a 4mm micro guide of the same type? One thing I noticed with the

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has compared the weight of the smallest (4) recoil micro guides to the other " normal" micros in say, sizes 3 or 2 1/2? Thanks, craig

Well the idea I had was that for flipping heavy cover you would need more drag to haul the whole mess out sometimes... Craig

Thanks guys, The reel is a penn weighing about 9.6 ounces. I was thinking a Loomis IMX flipping blank, aero reel seat, texalinium grips, micro guides, perhaps with a microwave stripper. I want to flip 5 to 7" senkos unweighted, as well as jigs topping at 1/2 ounces (without trailer(. Open to suggestions on a blank with a good tip for flipping lighter weights, yet with backbone for hydril

I realize it wood affect overall weight, but what design considerations do I need to look at if building a spinning rod with a heavier reel? I'm confused as I would think a spinning reel is at the fulcrum by holding at the stem. So would a heavier reel make it more or less tip heavy? I'm wanting a spinning flipping stick, and already have a nice ( but hvy) saltwater reel to use. Which way should

Thanks Guys, Well for flipping the reel does not matter, except for the handle perhaps getting in the way. Heck, you can flip with a cane pole and no reel if you really wanted. The way in my trials I had been "getting around" the handle looping in flip/pitch was to grab the line closer to the first guide, rather than by the reel as in "normal" flip/pitch. I was just thinkin

Hello All, I happen to pour my own Senko-type stick baits, and I'd like to build/have built a rod for flipping And pitching these unweighted. I know I'll have a bunch of questions, but my first is regarding the inital "Tamer" "stripper" guide. I plan on transitoning to micros, but the first couple of guides I could use advice on. One of the knocks on using spinning for f

Steve, I completely understand what you are saying. But the question is: Is harder always better? Yes, bowling ball is more sensitive than a pillow... But is a GRAPHITE bowling ball more sensitive than a, say, granite bowling ball. With light, half of the energy is reflected away due to the difference in refractive index when light hits the water. The remainder is bent. This is also

Well, the reason I'm asking is about spinning reels. Even on reel seats where the blank is exposed, alot of the contact is actually with the reel itself. I'm looking for max sensitivity on a rod for weightless soft plastics. So am really wondering if, in this circumstance, a graphite reel foot might be more sensitive than a high end alum solid metal body reel. Thanks again ! Craig

Ok, I know vibration is the key to sensitivity in the hand. Vibration is a waveform, such as sound and, well, "waves". Waves can be dampened (when absorbed), deflected (think refraction and reflection) or transmitted. I can wrap my head around a foam grip absorbing (damping) some of a blanks vibration, thus making it less sensitive in your hand. -BUT- Where I get mixed

Thanks Guys, I think I'll give it a go... As far as the length/action, I've seen 2 schools of thought. The first is as you suggest, a longer rod with softer action and try to "pull " the fish away from his hole. The other, which is my preference, is to NOT pump, instead using the reel only to crank up the fish initially. This is why you see some people recomending a high speed reel,

Now, I realize that there are "better" grouper reels out there (and more expensive), but I LOVE my Daiwa 610. I just feel like Jesse "The Body" Venture in the movie "Predator" with the big handle on top and the huge crank of a reel handle. Now here's the thing: I would like to build or have a rod built to fit the reel. I've never built a rod, but am not worried ab

Hello, I don;t want to start a arguement over which is better, I'm sure it all depends on your desired application. My question is does anyone happen to have the technical data sheets for Flex-Coat hi-build Ultra V and LS Supreme Hi-Build? I'm trying to figure out which is better for my application, and would like to know the shore D hardness, flexural modulus, impact strength etc. Most
