Okay, spinning rod build. I'm wondering whether y'all would reccomend tying the reel direcly on the woven carbon tubing, or use a graphite plate seat tied on? By the way, does anyone have a part number for the Fuji graphite plate seat? I find lots of stainless...
Thanks! Craig Re: graphite tube handle: plate seat or directly on tube?

Wrapping the reel on is the way to go!

Fugi FS in silver or black is the older design, size 6 or 7. The newer cushioned seat is the NS series in size 7 only. Re: graphite tube handle: plate seat or directly on tube?

Sorry Joe, I will never wrap a reel on a rod. Just too many reasons why a person may want a reel off of a rod.
For example, when storing rods, I never have any reel on any rod. When a reel needs maintenance, how do you do the maintenance. When the reel wears out and needs to be replaced, how do you replace it. Be safe Roger Re: graphite tube handle: plate seat or directly on tube?

There are reels on the market now that can be detached from the foot/stem. This makes wrapping, plus removing the reel for maintenance, simple and quick.
It's not for everybody, but it is just about the closest thing to a minimalist approach that exists for attaching a reel to a rod handle. ................. Re: graphite tube handle: plate seat or directly on tube?

Craig:
I've been wrapping reels directly to carbon fiber handles for years and with very few exceptions, is the only way I'll mount them. Built one few years back with a plate handle to see how it would work out and hardly ever use it, just not as comfortable as wrapping to the handle. Have also used the reels M.r Kirkman referenced and if you are concerned about detachment? That is a good way o go, It also makes the job of wrapping easier. Service is not the problem some may think, just means laying the whole rod on the work bench opposed to just the reel. Here is a link to similar thread from few years back Jay Hunt who started it also posted link to a picture of his rod that may be of benefit to you Re: graphite tube handle: plate seat or directly on tube?

If it is for a customer, do what they want. If it is for yourself, do what you want. Personally, I don't marry a rod and reel. I change reels like I change socks. Is it correct? Only to me. Steve does it a lot, but I will agree with him that I don't find the plate seats comfortable. Re: graphite tube handle: plate seat or directly on tube?
