David, The REC recoil #20 measures 25mm from the bottom to the inside top of the guide. The Fuji TSVSG "V' frame #16 measures 24mm Herb

REC carries a very affordable 2" or 2 1/2" aluminium tube with a rubber compression cap. A fraction of what a screw-top tube will cost you. It is called the "Back Roads" and is just a plain light-weight tube - any length you wish, with a snap-on rubber cap. That is all I use now. It is on their web site at the bottom of the products. If you can't find it call Dan ay R

I am going to have to bend the 16's. My 12's came in today and they are perfectly upright. Tom, the frames are pretty heavy guage Ti. I don;'t think they will conform to the shape I want with finger pressure. Also, afraid I will cause the ring to pop out; if not now, maybe sometime in future. Fiji does turn out some nicely finished guides. Herb

Picky, picky, picky - I know that, traditionally, stamped double foot guides are oriented with the single post forward and the double post aft. However, I just purchased four Fuji TSVSG #16 "V" shaped strippers to use on 9 - 10wt rods. Per Tom's advice I am now using these i/s of the TNSG because the rings are about the same height as a #20. The only problem is that they seem to be

Tom, I only use whole lines - no heads. I already have a bunch of sf 7's with tips - but I can save them for the 9wts. Thanks, Herb

Kim, I am going to try using the (T)SVSG #16 as a stripper on a 10wt. Naturally I will want to stay with the "V" design for the subsequent double foot tamer & guides. Please advise how the progression should go if I want to end up with sf 7's, considering that the SVSG is a higher frame than "normal". Herb

I also have read that Lefty, and others of good repute,, espouse the use of at least a #20 - even a # 25 - on 8 - 10wt saltwater fly rod. That is why I was concerned that Fuji does not make a TiSiC stripper larger than a #16. But after reading some opinions on this site I built a number of 7 - 9 wt saltwater rods with the #16 as stripper. The rods cast beautifully and the line flows through

I am building a Dan Craft FT 9' 9wt now with Fuji TiSiC Concept guides. 16, 12, another 12 for a tamer, 10 sf, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, tip-top. I know that many would skip the 8, but I am old fashioned. Herb

Hi, I have used 2 popular epoxy brands and a popular one-part urathane. All with satisfactory results. I use the epoxies where weight is not a consideration. The result is a secure guide attachment, I think, because of the shear bulk of the material and because the thread "tunnels" are easy to fill during the application process. The urathane, however, does not fill the "t

Tom, I don't consider the RPL a fast rod. It's more of a pretty-slow-mid-flex rod . You are talking circa early-mid 1990's right? Sage changed the taper with the RPL+, and that was faster. If your father really likes a faster action then my vote would be for Dan Craft's FT 9' 4pc 6wt. I personally think the FT series is the best I have encountered, bar none. I compares favorably with all my

I am building my first 2 hander. On my one handers, my cork rings are epoxied (slow cure) and turned on the blank. By the time I install the section in the compresion jig, and I am cleaning off the excess epoxy from a 7.5 inch grip and 1.5 inch fighting butt, the epoxy is just beginning to get tacky. I am concerned, that when I am gluing-up a 15 inch grip and a 5 inch butt , the rings in t

I hear alot about Rainshadow. Anyone have experiance with their RX8 4pc 9' blank in 8, 9, 10 wts for salt water. My favorite, so far and by far, are Dan Craft',s 9' FT blanks overlined one line wt, I like a blank that has a soft, fast tip that firms up fast into the 2nd section of the blank, with a very firm butt. The CTS blanks that I have (Maxim 9wt & Affinity S 7wt, are too soft in
