Used a lot of it building cedar strip canoes. Will never mess with polyester resin again. Way nasty smelling toxic gas evaporates from it. Has issues with water permeability. Not for use inside a house. The previous posts about avoidance for rod building are right on!

Hi Tom,
Yes, I am applying the PG to the rod blank while spinning on the lathe. Maybe just hold the rod in one hand and swipe with the other eh?
Thanks,

First, I completed lashing on the hardware but could see I'd need a new spool of thread to do the weave with. So because the label always falls off, I had marked the spool G9270. Figured that must be Gudebrod, so the order was sent off. What was sent to me was a good deal darker of a green. Kind of a green/silver instead of the silver/green of the original. No problem, I can work around tha

I am playing with a pink rod- an attempt to work on an Alaskan Fireweed theme. Have never worked with a painted rod before. The pink layer seems a bit fragile. I assume the proper fix is to apply a coat of perma gloss to the rod? Thanks,

Here in North Pole, Alaska (64 degrees North Latitude) I thought that was the way epoxy always behaves-- didn't know any different! Now I am all anxious to see what I am missing.... or maybe I don't want to know! Might spoil me. Oh well, May Halibut, June Kings, July Reds and August Silvers will make up for all the cold wx blues. Maybe this is the angle I need to convince my wife to let m

I use the Ott more for the light than the magnification for the same aggravations in moving as previously mentioned. What is just perfect for magnification are the folding lenses that clip on to the bill of a hat. Sold at the fly shop for 'older' fly fishermen! Can see under them to find the razor blade and over them to watch the game and thru them to work. Those plus a headband LED light fo

NASA can glue a thermal tile onto a Shuttle and make it stick through re-entry, but the thread companies can't keep a thread spool sticker from falling off before the thread is used up. Grrrrrr!

My mama did raise me better than that! She had me practice writing thank you notes and returning them via the post within two days of being the recipient of a good turn.
I think the difference now is the protocols of the email age are very different. At work I supervise 50 employees. When my time, opinion or help is requested in person or by phone, I am always thanked for my effort. When t

BYAG vs TYSAG....... I can't crack the codes. I have studied the catalogs, read the posts on this site for a long time, and have tried various terms to search it as well, but I can't crack the meaning of the catalog listing codes the manufacturers use to describe their guides!
I took Latin in high school... the codes must be Greek......
If someone could direct me to an explanation I'd

105. Re: silk thread
The only colors my daughter would approve for her rod were available in silk. No problelms, straight forward application. CP required or fades out under epoxy.

106. Re: high sticking?
Many thanks to all who responded to my request for an explanation of 'high sticking". (Yes, it was Chris Karp's thread that had me curious.) As I had sort of guessed, the term is one of those 'self evident' things which are intuitively understood by those who are interested in both the sport and the equipment used rather than a term with a Webster's definition. Thanks for all the efforts

107. high sticking?
I have done a search to try to figure out what exactly 'high sticking' is in terms of rod breakage, but can't find a definition of what this means. Can someone post an explanation of the term for me? Thanks.

I have developed to the point where I am asked to make rods as gifts for retiring staff members and only charge what it takes for materials, having started making them first for myself and then for extended amily.... as an excuse to build more! I can't quite tell what it is I do differently from my first few rods, but thread cooperates and epoxy no longer has a high fear factor associated with

Well I thought so too, but when I surfed my way thru those outfits, Pac Bay thread did not leap out at me! Thinking maybe I was malfunctioning, I went back to Pac Bay's site this afternoon and found while it still listed metallic thread, the standard threads were gone from their site??? Maybe there is another way to skin the cat... I am looking to replicate Pac Bay's "mocha brown' and &q
