It did seem to help towards the tip.. I could have went a little more agressive towards the butt, but theres alot of fractures.. I didnt want to risk shanking myself by accident lol.. If varnish is your issue, dawn dish soap and a good bath.. Seriously though try soft scrub with bleach.. Its about as gritty as toothpaste.. Or brasso.. It got alot of discoloration out of the pores..

You can use testors modeling paint, but trying to replicate the pattern with thread will give you a much more attractive look.. If your talking about the rod on the right i personally would go with thread in the respective color, if anything.. It makes for gokd practice

I permaglossed it, left the sanding stage to 2000, instead of my usual 3000, wiped clean, had a little ruffness yet, so adheasion shouldn't be a problem i woukd think.. I ended up doing underwraps, this way i extended the extended the previous wraps about 1/8-1/4 respectively... Up towards the tip section i had a heck of a time finding the last guide placement, it seems if i went a little deeper

Thats a bummer.. And your probably correct.. Just very unsightly around the feet.. So.. Since this is a rod that Will never see water again.. I warned the owner that this glass is in no condition to be placed under load anymore, so he wants it as a wall hanger... Is it possible that the discoloration hasnt penetrated completly through? In simpler terms, if i remove enough material, will it go

As the title says... There is significant discoloration throughout this ol' solid glass rod, (the translucent kind) Expecially where the guides were.. "Ghost guides" are going to force me to place them back where i found them.. No big deal. But if the idea js to clean the whole rod up... Removing staining should be part of it no? i cleaned it up the best i could, wet sanding and

Well.. I stand corrected... Permagloss does not attack electrical shrink tubing.. Guess this is why we should test before asking.. Lol well that makes things a heck of alot easier then i thought... Lol Thanks.. I know you didnt do much, but it helped :)

Im not.. Gimmie 5 min. Lol.. I have a scrap piece left over.. I will say this though.. It will curl vynl.. My biohazard rod had all the edges curling on the vynl cutout i used. I managed to keep poking it down until the gloss set up enough to hold it.. Arent most winding checks nylon?

So i got ahold of some electrical shrink tubing.. Big stuff, like for 750kmcm or 500mcm.. Diffrent colors.. Figured what the @#$%&, lets see what all the fuss is about with using tubing over old cork.. So i wrapped a thread to create a textured feel, used the shrink, it needed something else.. To.. Bland.. So j decided to put some thread work over top, just to see what it would look like.. We

Since there are 2 of you, you can always do as i did for the longest time.. Put the rod in your stands... Have one of you just spin it kind of hand over hand while the other applies it.. As long as you keep a steady, continueous rotation you should be fine, place it on your rod dryer so it doesnt sag.. It sets up pretty quick.. I only put 1 coat on, but after casting for an entire day, ended up p

FedEx here near Allentown PA is a nightmare, anything i get from mudhole that ships fedex is about 2 and a half weeks.. Around christmas my power wrapper was damaged twice by them.. Mjdhole worked with me on it and i settled for a unit that looks like it was used, paint worn off in spots, dinged up a bit, but atleast the pulleys werent bent, or blown out bearings like the first one.. Anything

Let it dry, and epoxy Right away.. If it is some form of air born contamanent last thing you want is to let the rod sit.. Dont sand too deep... You get some thread fuzz, and wash it, i cant tell you long it will take to dry.. Thread is like a wick.. Best of luck

He was not at the house when this happend to the best of my knowledge, i dont want to bring something like that up to someone who knows if he was or not..

much appreciated.. I also did a restore with a custom box crafted by my mother and brother, the rod read "just as this rod has been restored, so will our hearts" thier names and dates, along with in loving memory were written on the inside of the lid with a wood burner.. Just so happens my boss, was the godfather of Bruce Jr. When i presented that to him he nearly callapsed. He was shoc

They were extremly active in the community.. Great people.. Horrible thing that should have never happen.. 2 builders who i concider fami

Ive run into this problem almost every time up until recently.. This is what ive done.. And both solutions worked extremly well for me.. First off im a gear cutter, so what that means is im covered in about 7 diffrent types of oil and coolant day in and day out.. Really its a pain in the butt..for example.. Want a drink from the vending machine? Grab your wallet... You can shower, wash y

Yeah.. But i can honestly say i enjoy building more then fishing anymore.. Its a very close battle.. Very close... But im never disappointed with a finished rod.. At the vert least, its a great learning experiene.. And we are only as good as the information given.. Building is more of a controlled science then fishing.. Its funny acually.. My ultra light weight is 2.2oz. And i love that rod..

I started with a turnkey, i use the handwrapper yet, and the tools.. These guys arent lying when they say the thread epoxy can be tricky! Since, ive upgraded to the CRB RBS pro wrapper, along with 3 aluminum tracks, the tracks come with roller bearings for the hand wrapper.. Ive had to buy a few extra tentioner rods for the wrapper, they dont seem to hold up.. My first was a CRB e-glass turnkey
