Hey guys, i just got a call from a old friend who said hes going to be going to the 1000 islands in september... Im not sure if he wants me to build him a rod, or just pick him a good rod..
My question is, whats a good all around setup for these waters? Im assuming he isnt going to be fishing onterio.. Otherwise he would be getting a charter i would assume.. I have to pick his brain a little m

Huh huh.. Peat moss... Lol
They have thier places.. I kind of prefer peat moss over come play.. Its a little thicker.. Come play is a little too watery at first... Imo.. But, with the extended life i wouldnt have been able to hit the grooves.. Still had to do it in 2 cups..

The concoction i got on my arm when added to water will explode.. Thus always add mixtures to dilutant... Not the other way around..

Thank you for posting the sds.. I should have done that right away.. Since we use this at work regularly i have read the SDS thoroughly.. Its honestly one of the safest cemicals we use.. I splashed a little drop of acid on my arm the other day.. Its a mix of sulfuric, miriotic, phosphoric, and nitric acids.. Nasty stuff.. Thankfully i only have a minor burn..

Ok, so i decided to go a little crazy on this pink rod here.. 2 rules... Black, and neon hot pink.. So i painted the blank, went with a EVA grip.. Didnt look quite right with your standard standard run of the mill EVA setup so i decided to put grooves in it every 1/4" or so.. Looked pretty cool that way.. But i still wasnt really happy.. So i decided to put metallic pink thread in the groove

I am very sorry.. I know what it is to have to give something up that means alot.. Not being able to continue your passion is one of the worst things that can happen... Just keep your head up, rest, remember all the smiling faces that passed through your doors.. And heal.. And whoever has your collection probably appreciates it more then you know..

Ok, these are my personal findings...
The KR guides are smoother, quieter, and just sexy in black..
The minima model M guides with model F runners and a model FM tip top are extremly light.. Casting distance, and accuracy is not effected, however the minima guides are ringless, so there is more of a tingy sound when casting, and they dont feel as smooth.. But the advantage of less weight is

The placement.. Its basically a 4 guide reduction train.. If you follow the KRGPS it has remarkable results.. Place the rest of the guides in static placement.. I use the KR system with minima4 guides.. Makes for a extremly light guide train.. As for fly rods and conventional, i cant say.. But i will say, its better then cone of flight imo

That is some very good info.. Thanks herb, it makes sence about heavier line showing issues.. And i may start doing that honestly.. Granted, i use mono primarily, been meaning it pick some braid up and give it a try.. I am primairly a ultralight fisherman, and river rods (6-12lb, 7' mainly)and wish i learned about the KR system sooner..
Thanks herb
Verry good explinantion...

No apologies necessary, your more knowledgeable then me on this topic by far..
Question for gerald, what is your current setup? No matter how you look at it, the idea here is to create a rod better then the one you currently use.. When you decide on a reel, then decide on the guides..
A question about the KR system.. From what i understand, it was designed primarily for light line and br

Lol no you shouldnt have to say that.. For example, i know a guy who landed a 47lb cat on 4lb test.. Wasnt expecting that in a small canal..
I ment that post in the kindest of ways.. You guys are all very knowledgeable, and I'd be lost without your inputs..
For now, im gearing up to wade the river... Later fellow builders...

I agree with lynn.. Check batson rainshadows out.. I dont know if they make a surf style of rod, but ive heard nothing but good things about them.. The guys above seem to be getting a little off subject here.. (No offense guys) i still say MHX makes a damn good blank for the money.. For any application ive tried so far..
Ps. You guys arent wrong, but hes asking for a suggestion, not a explina

MHX blanks are honestly a great bang for the buck.. Thier power runs a touch heavier then advertized.. (I know herb ;) power is subjective.. Lol) they are light weight.. I havent had a issue with one yet.. Look to the left, start clicking on sponsers.. Theres alot to choose from.. You need help with anything, post.. Trust me, these guys are a great family

Noted.. Im pretty lost with what does what.. I mean i get it, its not crazy complex.. Everything i got has the wicked logo, so im guessing they are all compatable.. Except the airborne sealer.. I realized after i got home that it doesnt say if its for wicked or not.. I also grabbed reducer, gun cleaner, balancer additive along with neon pink, neon purple, white, black, matte, and gloss finish.

Hey guys, so im doing 2 rods.. Ive looked into finding the color, dupicolor and DuPont dont have what i need.. I went to the classic car restoration place, and hes going to give me an estimate on monday after he talks to his supplier.. He has to see the smallest amount he can get before he gives me an estimate.. The color is basically mexican pink.. (Trust me, it hurts me too.. But thats what the
