The only problem with using braid is im basically fishing in razor blades when on the river, very sharp rocks.. Ive been trying to get my brother to use circle hooks for some time now.. Might just buy him a pack.. Thanks for the input guys.. Ill probably be checking out the rainshadow blanks.. I have a thing for 2 piece rods.. Never liked 1 piece.. Just personal preference i guess.. Limit

Ok.. The rod i based the build off is a Fenwick EliteTech Smallmouth model number ESMS692M-XF 6'9" medium... I have a pfluger president reel on it, not sure on exact size.. Places the balance about 3 1/2" infront of the reel seat.. It has 7 guides not including the tip top in a standard conical formation... The blank i used is a 7' MHX World Class Blank Series fast action medium powe

I should have waited to post that message.. Im at work, and wrote that in 10 min. Lol ill pull the info off the rod im trying to copy.. I understand action vs. Power.. Just said it backwards in a rush.. My fault.. And yes it is definatly a spin rod.. Bass... The rod i have won best rod of 2017 in some contest.. Its on fenwicks site.. And its the mhx blanks.. Wow i seriously botched that original

Ok, so i have 2 questions acually.. I understand what rod action and rod power mean, but im open for suggestions.. My last build was a 7' medium power ultra light action.. I based the build off my favorite rod, a Fenwick EliteTech Smallmouth Elite, 6'9" medium ultra light.. The blank i used was a graphite mtx.. But i have to say its nothing like my Fenwick, i know diffrent makers hav

On this build yes.. But the original design i had in mind used dark smoke aluminum checks with dark cherry accents.. Funds wouldnt allow for the additinal "flare" and to be honest im glad i went without them.. This build ended up becoming more of a "steathy" look, rather then "showy" rod.. Sometimes a minimalist approach is 10x more aestheticly pleasing then having t

Bad news? Thats wealth of useful information and possibly saving heartbreak and sorrow.. Thats not bad news at all.. I more then appreciate your input.. I will never say i learned everything there is to know.. Something i learned from being a bass player.. If you say you learned everything there is to know about a trade, you know nothing about a trade... It makes perfect sense, and i cant

Actually.. I may have gotten lucky.. I got over zealous with reeming the butt.. I had to wrap 2 turns around the blank with masking tape.. And kept it fairly close to the front of the butt.. So there is a space between the blank and the carbon fiber.. And its loaded with epoxy... Not sure if that will suffice for a permanent fix, but im sure it will postpone a failure if nothing else... Also, th

Thats very excellent info.. Wish i new that before i built the grips... Its a split grip, and my brother wants a rod simular to the one i just built... I wont stress it with this rod as its my second, and complete now.. If in the future it ends up snaping... Its just the butt, and i contemplated cutting the blank down from the get go... It would make the rod look a little funny... But that would

Awesome... Done in 1 coat.. Theres only 1 complaint i have, where the winding checks meet the cabon fiber grips... I ended up having to use rubber winding checks instead of the aluminum ones i originally was going to get.. Funds wouldnt allow for that extra little touch.. Where the checks meet the carbon fiber theres a small gap.. When they made the grips, they pull the fiber to a ring, (thats wh

Lol... Thats why i have 2 jobs... Lol... I use my first rod for catfish.. In fact, im on my way to the water now.. So what must i do... Create a account for the picture page and post a link? I have a few scratchs from the carbon fiber id like to get off.. Might try 2000 grit... Any suggestions on a polishing compound? Its a matte rod... I might just leave it as is...

That is some really good advice on coating.. I just got done puting the first coat on.. Honestly it looks (atleast now) like that should do it.. The only complaint i have on how the finish came out is with those small guides i got a fair amount forward... Havent gotten the angle to keep the prokote tight to the guide foot yet... Other the that, its came out really nice.. Cant wait to get the thi

Im my experience fishing with store bought rods, ive found that split grips are more sensitive, alteast they seem that way to me.. I dont want this to start the age old argument, but i think the more you add material to a blank, the more sensitivity is lost.. The resonance of a strike, of tapping bottom, or rocks, etc. Is lost a little in material.. An extreme example of what im talking about is

I modeled this rod off my fenwich elite tech smallmouth pro.. Its my favorite rod, the best rod ive ever bought... My goal is to make every rod better then the last obviously.. But im making that my benchmark.. I contemplated cutting the blank down to 6'9", but figured it is my second rod.. My first rod i did a chevron wrap.. Came out 10x better then i ever expected it too.. I wish i could

I guess before i coat the wraps ill run some line through, see how it follows the blank.. I have to think i might have to redo the guides.. With the microwave line control system, they give measurments off the arbor for the first 3 off the reel... Its my understanding that those guides have "critical" spacing for the system to work properly.. Does anyone agree or disagree with that?

Hey guys, new to this site.. I am at the thread coat stage of my 2nd build.. This is a 2 piece, 7' extra fast action, medium power.. 6-12 lb... I put a microwave guide system on it.. Never tried them before, hopefully they work as well as i hope.. Cfx carbon fiber split grip, looks beautiful on the slate grey blank.. I used all size A maroon and smoke gray nylon pro thread...(i put som
