It seems im dealing with a troublesome rod right now.. First off the day started crappy.. Woke up at 7am, (i work til 1am) to get ready for charity benifit, my wife and i were going to vend.. 21mph sustained winds with gust of 35+... Needless to say after an hour and a half our tent was completly destroyed, so we packed it in... Beingfor a charity event i donated a very nice baitcaster that was a

Sorry im a touch late to this one.. Yes it works fine.. In my picture gallary is a biohazard rod done this way.. I was haveing sone serious issues with waves.. I am q0x better at applying epoxy now, but i was on attemp 5 at that point.. Maybe 6.. At the time i felt mlre comfortable with PG the thread finish.. So i rushed the last crappy coat.. Sanded the entire epoxied area for the 3rd time.. Nea

Not sure if this applies to foam.. But with alumilite 2 part acrylic epoxy, the kind for turning on a lathe.. To get that crystal clear, no bubbles finish you have to place the cast in a vacuum chamber... I sae a video once where they did a side by side with a pressue chamber vs a vacuum chamber to see which worked better... Its surprising the ammount of bubbles that get forced to the surface.. L

Pro wrap metallic is tough.. As mentioned, slipping it into the groove works best from a wrapper, i usually use it in a bodkin, the weight of the spool is enough to keep it from uncoiling, plus you can add and drop it with ease.. You can jse the bodkin as a psudo tentioner too, let the spool rest off the edge of the table.. Or let the tip rest on the blank and spin.. I prefer to keep it in hand..

I have a cricut, it cuts vynl... Ive made multiple logos for my rods, and lettering smaller then a newspaper.. You can use them as a stencil.. Flood them with alcohol ink, seal with permagloss.. I write most things in by hand, but sometimes its beneficial to use the stencil approach.. And it looks great..

You can always take your tag that you wrap over to start the thread, keep it long, then when your ready, fold it back to create the loop, then pull through like with a second thread loop.. Ill warn you though.. Doing it that way makes it verry difficult for some reason to unwrap it.. I did that a few times on my test blank to compare colors.. It really locks itself down

I used permagloss on my stealth rod, one coat looks good, but for the way that rods setup it needed to be a little less ruff.. My brothers rod i applied about 5ish coats.. It looks like its encased in a gel.. Kinda neat.. And remarkably grippy

Im still waiting.. I have a thing for conolon rods, they seem to find thier way onto my bench often.. The history of the missilite is really interesting if you havent read up on it, i suggest doing so.. I spent about 2 hours going through my history trying to find the article i read, it gave the names, dates, previous careers, etc. Of everyone who started the company.. Including a paragraph on cr

I also do the same as those 2 i use a leonard 40 england.. Least thats what it says on it lol getting your angle to have a decent flow rate gets some getting used to.. If you have flow problems add a drop of alcohol to the ink.. Thins it a little... Also when you first get your nib make sure you clean the tip very good.. They put protective oils on them for shelf life.. Also take the tip and swir

Go to lowes, or home depot.. Go to the heating and cooling department.. Get real duct tape.. It comes in diffrent sizes, i get a 3" roll of silver foil tape.. Stuffs really sticky, takes epoxy and permagloss without any issues.. And since its a 3" wide roll you can cut strips the diameter of your rod, a 50' roll with at max 1" or so removed per guide will last a verry, verry long t

Man you guys are goin at it... Lol great reads by the way.. I look at it this way.. Sure you can select the blank first, then go from there.. I can build a rod well enough that people come keep coming back.. However.. I cannot build a reel... Yet.. So picking a reel is my first step when matching a rod and reel.. I can customize one of the 2 to meet the needs of the other..

Im with norm on the poly grips.. Ill be marbling, or i should say my mother eill be marbling, (its going to be her rod) poly grips soon here.. Once she has the spare cash to order, ill order.. And relay the results... Roger suggested other materials, theres always acrylics too.. Depends if your shooting for a high gloss finish, or matte... The problem with carbon fiber in my opinion is price..

Another fun trick, take silver foil tape.. Place that on the blank first.. Be professional, cut your seams flush ;) then wrap nylon thread over it.. With out color preserver it give a cool effect.. Makes the thread really pop thanks to the translucency.. Herb, is hitena stretch thread similar to pro wrap premium threads?

I try to keep the rod as close to what would have been on it at the time it was made.. I havent had the opportunity to work on a rod with ring and keeper setup.. But i will keep you in mind if i ever do.. ;) What works good for setting stones in anything is GS hypocement, ive used that for many situations.. kind of like a superglue, bjt wont bond your fingers

I always figured it was to utalize the rods properties to the fullest to achieve the higgest possible preformace able to be achieved.. With that said, it wouldnt matter how a fish would apply a bend onto your rod, its been tuned to handle that..
