Can someone give me a height measurement? (from blank to bottom of ring) I don't have a TLSG 8 here to see the height. I once found a complete chart for fuji guides (in japanese) but the #'s were in mm's so I could still use it. It had all the dimensions, from height to foot size and length, etc. Of course I can't find it anymore. Anyone remember that chart? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies... I had 7 and 8 on my mind but having always use rods with snakes, I realized that a snake would pass a much larger knot since it had an "open bottom" and I didn't know if that was a consideration on size of a closed loop guide. I'll double check my knot connections when I get started. Thanks again, Keith

Building a 9 wt fly rod... What sized running guides and top should I be considering? (I'm a relative newb with fly rods.) My last couple (2 wt & 4 wt) were built with ceramic single footed guides... not sure if I want to go ceramic or something like a single footed recoil guide on this one... if you have a strong preference either way, I'd like to hear about it. I'm open to anything

Gotcha. That's just about what I thought when I read through all their info on the website. I was just not sure if one wt less was the right number. Keith

Looking for a little guidance on these... I do realize that this is a nearly impossible question to answer with certainty so I'm just asking for your honest opinions. From the description (pasted below if you haven't read it) they would seem to be rated maybe 2 weights under the actual power. I'm wanting to build myself a 9 wt, but think I need to order the 8 wt blank. There was only 2 CC

Now that you mention it, I guess I'm an idiot... I'm remembering the gold/yellow paper backing it's attached to. Too many things on my mind today. Thanks for jarring the trap!

Can someone tell me if the blank specification decals Batson sends are metallic gold or metallic copper? I'm not home (to check)and am making out a decal order I & need some to match. Thanks

I'm sure it exists, but I don't know where to look. I'm wanting to find the hardware for a fighting butt that I can glue up & turn the cork/eva to match my own grip. I'm not much for the natural cork butts I see for sale. Or, if you have a simple way to attach a permanent fighting butt, I'm certainly open to that as an alternative. I've only done lightweight fly rods thus far and haven't

Admittedly I wanted Ti for a couple reasons but mostly because I thought it was "the best." Once in a while i want to spoil myself. ...lol I'm finding a few aluminum seats that look great so i think I'm past the Ti seats... Thanks for the input.

I'm looking for some options for reel seats to be used on saltwater fly rods. I immediately thought (Struble) titanium, and then checked the prices. ...lol Not in my budget right now. Are there other (brands) titanium seats that are more affordable? I've never had trouble with aluminum but I'm building a couple of 'special' rods and thought Ti. would be nice if I can afford it. Thank

I sometimes use a hacksaw and then use the disk on the side of the belt sander to square it up. Works great, every time. Sometimes I only used the sander if I don't have a lot to trim. I run my pocet knife around the inside edge on about a 45 degree angle to clean up any of the melted material that remains. And most times lightly sand the outer edge at a 45 degree angle (with fine paper) jus

Buzz, I use musky blanks as swimbait rods (for bass) and use #12 as the first guide. I'm throwing anything from 2-8 oz swimbaits on 20# to 30# mono. All of them work like a champ. I think most of the charts you looked at are carryover from the days when most companies used "oversized guides". Your own results are way more important to consider than some silly chart. I eyeba

Who's used them? I have wanted to for a while but the cost has kept me from trying them. I honestly doubt there is much of a noticable difference in performance over some other guides but I have a couple blanks on order that I'd like to go all out with and can't quite convince myself to pull the trigger. ...lol Hoping for feedback from any of you that have built or fished with Gold Cermet

I have used the rainshadow musky blanks for swimbait rods... I was really impressed at both the price and quality. If the budget was bigger, I might go with some other blank but not unless I was planning on throwing big swimbaits for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time.

But at the moment I'm 9 weeks into an insurance claim on a Loomis rod I shipped USPS... they BROKE a 3" sched 40 PVC tube and the rod. 9 weeks in.. and when I checked on it the other day, it's still not even entered into their computer system!! AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!! So, for the same price or within a coup

I'm hoping a few of you that have built on the blue forecast blanks can help. What thread color combos have you used that looked good? I am horrible with colors anyway and these blue blanks are throwing me. One with black guides and hardware the other with SS. Thanks for any suggestions.

You can do it without a lathe.... my first 5 or so grips were done with a simple electric drill and a 12" long 1/4" drill bit as a mandrel. (used a dryer hose clamp to hold the drill on a board, and a block of wood with a hole drilled by the drill bit as a support) Not perfect but not noticable that they are a few 100ths off. As far as butt caps, you can use anything you want... I

I'm just about to start on a couple fly rods and remember seeing some mention of butt guide placement relative to arms length or something. I wasn't able to find the threads by searching. These will be my first attempts at flyrods... What do you guys do to determine butt guide placement? I have a 6'6" 2 wt and an 8'6" 4 wt if it matters. Thanks for any suggestions. Keith

Curious as to who makes high quality mag bass taper blanks in multi piece, specifically 3 or 4 pc. I have seen the St. Croix SCIII models listed in 2 pc. and also saw some Forecast blanks in 3 pc.. Surely there are others, can you help point me in that direction? Thanks! Keith

I have nothing but high praise for Fishsticks... had some issues that I CAUSED and Robert was on the phone from home late in the evening (his time) working with me. Another time I waited until 2 days before I needed a blank and he had it drop shipped 2nd day from Bastson, since his shipping time had passed for that day. In any business, I haven't had anyone work so hard to help me out. N

Tom, Thanks for the response, I agree and should have worded differently. I was meaning a true X wt as in comfortably "aerializing" 30' of X wt. line per the ccs articles. The only part of the article I really grasped well was the part about # of feet in the air for a given weight and how that relationship worked. (my comments about the "weak 5 wt." were completely valid

I'm hoping to get a little help on figuring ccs data on a flyrod. Today I decided to check 2 of my flyrods, in hopes of duplicating one (in a self built) and using the 2nd as a guide to buy the right rod blank for another application. I first checked a cheap 5 wt. which always felt weak for 5 wt. line... if my penny count was right (38) it came in as a mid 4 wt, so I went out and casted in

Sorry to bog you down with this question but most sites you have to checkout to get payment options. Got tired of doing this, just to check. I'm low on cash but have a decent balance in paypal so I figured I'd order my next blank and stuff that way. (my paypal isn't connected with my bank) Looking for sponsor that accepts paypal and carries flyrod blanks. Thanks for any info, Keith
