I have been using Spee-dee delivery to ship rods in the mid-west and they are very reasonable. Outside of the Mid-West, who do you guys use? UPS? Fed Ex? Thanks!

For oversized packages I have had the best luck and the best rates using the US Post Office.

Like Joe said, I have heard more than one person say the USPS is extremely competative these days. I'll surely give them a shot next time I have the need to ship.

Just checked USPS rates. And to think that I've never tried that - just shipped some 7' using Fed Ex and I think USPS is 1/2 the cost!

I now use Fedex. I used USPS for a long time because it was closer to my house. But at the moment I'm 9 weeks into an insurance claim on a Loomis rod I shipped USPS... they BROKE a 3" sched 40 PVC tube and the rod. 9 weeks in.. and when I checked on it the other day, it's still not even entered into their computer system!! AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

So, for the same price or within a couple dollars, I'll stick to Fedex... you can track the progress (real time) and I imagine they would pay a claim faster if you had a problem.

I shipped two 8' blanks from Tx to NC in a sched 40 pvc tube, insured, for $23. Fedex.

Most of my USPS rod shipments ( 6'6" & 7' ) were $18-$25.

9 weeks and it's not even in their system? Um, I think I'd call someone in a higher position than whoever it is you are currently dealing with. There ARE people within the USPS that will get the job done. Quit messing with the flunkies and go above their head. You can even go to the USPS web site and file a complaint. They act on those quickly...trust me...experience speaking.

I ship with Spee-Dee whenever I can. It is the cheapest by far as they don't charge extra for rod tubes over six feet. They charge the same for a 5 foot tube as they do for a ten foot tube. They only cover places in the Midwest, though. I have been looking for a dealer whe sells Rainshadow/Forecast products and blanks that is in the midwest and uses Speedee. I hate paying 15 to 20 bucks for shipping when I know Speedee would do it for less than 10.
