While I don't do many, I have had the same issue with all telescopic Rods I have made. The first guide from the reel seat is always too close to the butt of the rod so that, if not corrected, when the rod collapses it slides into the butt section and eventually damages the wrap/finish on the guide. I have used many things to prevent this (Eva foam has worked the best) and was wondering what ot

I also got some from the skin shop but it is long gone. I have had success with my own by fleshing it out and using a product called snake tan. The trick is to use a dull, flat object when fleshing it out this way you don't put holes in the skin.

I have had those problems also and found that a GOOD seal coat on the core helps reduce this greatly.

You also may want to check out the Jackson Big Tuna for the 2 person model (which also paddles well as a solo kayak) or the Cuda for a solo. Both are designed for fishing with many storage options. The comfortable seat makes it work while.

I have used the split reel seats on several of my own flipping sticks. They have seen heavy use over the last 4 years and have not have a problem with this happening but I did see it happen on video at the Classic last year.

How many of you have sold rods overseas? Are there any problems/regulations to be aware of? This is a first for me and want to know if I am about to get in over my head? Thanks!

I do like Tom and build them as normal for the technique I plan to use it for. To me every rod is build with the handle at a comfortable length for the technique. With that being said, alot of other kayak guys seem to like the shorter handles.

The builder is a cabinet maker, has never made one, and is going by some designs from the photo posts here and else where on the internet. I need this mainly in the winter time as my shop is outside in a room off of my garage and it gets pretty darn cold.

Is it necessary to have an exhaust fan in a heated drying box? I am having a new one made and don't want to do it if it is not necessary.

The shorter rod may indeed make it easier for him to land fish. Personally I never use anything shorter than 7' and many are 7'6" and have no problem landing fish. The kayak I fish from is not even 12' and the longer rod makes all the difference...longer casts, longer reach to get fish around the front and back of the kayak (and I am not a small guy 6'2") and the ability to move line

I both fish from a kayak and build rods for guys fishing out of kayaks. Almost all people want longer rods for longer casts and the ability to move the fish around the front and back of the kayak. Try to talk the guy into at least a 7'... 7'6" is even better. He would not be disatisified. The Castaway 874 (7'3") and BB1 (7'6" and a bit faster) make great frog rods but are long

Been painting a bunch of blanks lately and have ran into a particular problem a few times. On 2 blanks the paint has been crackling on one axis for about 1ft.. Each blank has been sanded/deglossed and wiped clean (water and cloth) paying attention to keep my oily hands off of the blank. I have resanded each and removed the imperfections wiped clean (water and cloth again) and the problem retu

Those of you that are selling rods, what type of business license do you have? LLC? I have read about the FET but I am curious about the actual businees side of it.

After seaching the internet I found the "Water Buoy". It looks like it could be used but would need some modification and t is currently not available. Something that woudl fit inside the butt of the rod would be great...I am still looking.

I have been asked by a guy that fishes from kayaks to make a bass rod that will float if it goes overboard. My first idea wat to use a urethane foam handle. The ones that I have made all utilize the split grip concept ,no foregrip and will not float with a reel on it. My next plan is to try a full rear grip and if necessary a front grip also. The rod needs to float with a curado on it. Bes
