I would, just to seal the thread wraps and force any air out. The color will not change on metallic.

I was wondering if any or how many of us Forum people are going to this show? It will be my 3rd year going down from R.I. for the 3 days. Just thought it would be nice to put some faces to the names.

Here's my 2 cents,
High end or low end it don't matter to me. Usually 10 out of 10 times if a customer is looking for a custom built fly rod, he or she already knows which blank they like period. But if they are thinking of something "different" then I let them try some rods I already have built up in the line class they are interested in. They are the paying customer and only if they

I built a 8wt and a 6wt with those guides. both of those rods are getting fished hard. No problems. As far as I am concerned, If REC put them out thats good enough for me! Oh yea, the rods cast great.

Nice Job! It makes a great look when you do use two very contrasting colors. Your finish coat looks great also.

Well, when someone from out of town stops me on main street and asks me if I know how to get to Newport, I look at them straight in the eye and say "yes I do" and keep walking.

Come on Bill,
You can't buck tradition. But you can start a transition. I advise new rod builders to use double foots, mainly to get more practice on wrapping the guides and then listen to how many times they put the tie off loop in backwards. It's great fun. But that's what it's all about. Lifes to short to be grumpy. (:

"the parts and pieces don't necessarily fit. That's something the rod builder has to do." Amen, That's the the reason alot of buyers don't get it when we ask the prices we ask. Sorry just venting here. Someone tried to get me way down on a price and would not leave me alone.

Fly line are measured by the first 30 feet of line weighed in grains. I don't have the chart in front of me you get the idea. If line "a" weighs "x "grains in the first 30 ft then it's a "blank" weight line, an so on. As far as the line wt goes on a fly rod there is no standard on what constitutes a 5wt 6wt 7wt or whatever. The Mfg goes by it's designs of that taper

Tom, I don't know what kind of camera your using but if you have a setting for taking close up of flowers use that setting and use a non reflective background and shoot it at a slight angle to the side it will reduce the glare from the rod. This is one of those things that you really need to play with all the different settings on the camera and see which one works.

105. Cork grip inlays
Does anyone know the issue (if there was one) of Rod Maker that has the how to of building angle inlays in cork grips. I've seen some angled inlays in grips and it looked really nice . But how to do it??? Or can someone direct me in the correct direction. I spin all my grips now and not really into the wood stuff but want to give this a whirl. I've been thinking about for a few weeks now and can'

Any one who is taking photos of your work and getting great results with your photos. What are you using for a camera and lens? I'm now at the stage where I need to start showing my work on more than a local scale. Thanks for any recommendations or suggestions. Just getting some ideas before I go shopping locally.

Hi Ray,
I grew up in Carol City not to far from you. Still have friends in Pembroke Pines. I live in Rhode Island now and been building for years. It's great fun and can make some extra cash. It just takes time and your name will get around. Take your time and be patient and rerwrap and rewrap also the help you can get from everyone here is priceless. All the builders here I find will not hold

Thanks for your input Mike. That's what I figured I would have to do. As you prob figured this is my first time using this type of guide. I really like the look of this style of guide. Well here I go I'm going to invest some dollars here for a stock of guides. I'm just a "keep it simple" kind of guy.
Thanks again Mike.

Ok,
But that doesn't make any sense. How are you to determine what size the actual "guide size" is. I'm sure the larger the guide the thicker the insert is. So if I wnat an actual #5 guide how am I to figure that? I guess there's no industry standard here.

Does anyone know of a chart that gives the ID size for guide rings from American Tackle? I received my (first time) order of American Tackle NIF guides and it seems that the ring size for the #5 single foots are VERY small compared to another brand of single foots. No I have not measured them yet but something seems to be incorrect here. I'm heading up to measure now. I was to believe that the gu

115. Grip Size
I have a new customer that is ordering a fly rod. This customer lives far from me and he has sent me a tracing of his casting hand. Does anyone know where I can find info on sizing a grip for this fly rod? I do turn my own grips. I saw the small bit of info in the last issue about the 19%. I'm guessing that would be the dia. of the grip?
Thanks

Why does the thread color change when you put color pre on NCP thread? I know NCP needs none but I use it to draw out any air that might get trapped. Should I be using non NCP thread?

If you have to ask that question then you have not been fly fishing long enough to have to ask that question.

Thanks Tom,
I have a feeling the GSP blank could very well be a spinning blank. It's 7'6" and the butt is much larger in dia.than most fly blanks I see and the taper is very steep to the tip. All are 2 peice. If anything I'll size them an build them. Have a wonderful holiday season.
