92. Re: spiral wrap
To echo what Bill just said I was playing with the various spiral wrap concepts the other night for a bottom rod I'm building. I originally was planning a revolver type rod with the butt guide at 0 degrees and transitions at 60 and 120 because IMO it is the best looking of the spirals. After a few hours of looking at how the guides were loading I went with the simple spiral. The spiral concept re

It needs to be square. To find the spacing use pi x diameter of the blank.

I think Jeff was hearing you right, you mean the # of wraps securing the guide, right? If so then a single wrap is more than enough. Like Jeff said double wraps are used on very large stand up rods with high frame rollers. Other than that a single wrap is more than enough.

96. Re: Tax Question
I was hesitant to ask this question through the internet for obvious reasons but everyone I've asked didn't know the awnser, so I took a roll of the dice. I was thinking about asking my accountant as mentioned above but then remembered that I didn't have an accountant and can't justify the expense for a few rods a year. Thanks for the help.

97. Tax Question
Building rods has always been a hobby for me but occasionally I'll build for friends and family. Lately this has expanded to "friend's of friends" and others I don't know personally but have some connection with. This is limited to about 5 to 10 rods per year and with not knowing some of these people I don't want to cross into the "commercial" building world and not even know

If it's a stand up then I would definanatly go with the rollers especially if you are after a line class record.
On a side note, the pending sand tile all-tackle record was caught last week on one of my sticks. It was a bycatch on a commercial grouper trip so not being targeted.

This is the 1/10 that comes with the Renzetti
and the Clockwise 1/15 HP one
Exactly the same

Dave B, the headstock would be in the way of the mount if you did it that way.
Dave H the foot pedal is just plugged into the motor, no input involved. The motor looks exactly the same as the one that come with the renzetti just a little less HP but the same casing and mount holes.

I had the same problem when I got my Renzetti since I use a bobbin rather than the thread carriage. I originally fixed the problem by turning the lathe so the chuck was to my right rather than my left but after blowing up the motor the other day i went by Grainger and they have 1 motor that turns clockwise. It's 1/15 HP rather than the 1/10 but works just as good for thread work and is a lot chea

I love mine also for mixing the problem is getting the metal rod out of the cup when you're done without making a mess.

Single thread trim bands are fairly simple without super glue. I saw a tutorial floating around a while back on how to do it, hopefully someone will pass it on to you, if not I could walk you through it after I get off work tonight. I've never tried the super glue but I would imagine it would not look that good and I'd probably end up gluing my finger to the blank.

I have a bunch of small spools of Nylon Black in E. It's yours for whatever a small spool of thread costs and a couple of bucks for shipping.

105. Re: Camo Blanks
Don't know if anyone else carries camo blanks but you could
1. cut one of the Mudhole blanks and add a ferrule
2. paint the blank with a camo pattern (they sell stencils)
3. pay a company to "dip" a 2-piece blank to create the camo effect. A number of companies do this for rifles but I'm sure they could do rod blanks too. Check their pricing first, it can be expensive, and ma

Russ, I wish I was but it's just not in the budget this year, you coming down for the Grand Prix?

LOL, Mark.
After talking to the guy at CTS that year I looked over at her and with a weird look on her face all she said was "I love that accent", To this day it is still an ongoing joke whenever a Geico commercial comes on with that little lizard.

Just an FYI to those bringing their ladies. Keep a close eye on them, this is what happened a few years ago when I wasn't paying attention.

Thanks for the suggestions. I knew I should have bought the extended warranty with the last motor I but, like usual, I took the cheap way out and it cost me more money now, which is the same reason I'm not opting to drop the $180 on the motor Renzetti sells.
Roger, are you rigging the motor to the head stock or going straight to the blank. Also I would think that sliding a blank over a metal

I'm not sure of which pulley (small, med, lg) I am using, but the setup is the normal Renzetti pulley system like the one pictured here
Which pulley should I be using?

Henry, you wouldn't happen to have a pic of the setup, would you?

Tom, thanks for the reply also. I did a search first and saw a post where you said the same thing.
The first one burnt up while I was trying to use a rasp on some cork which might be to much for the little motor and the second was using the drywall screen on EVA. Both times smoke came from the motor and both still work but not that well at slow speeds.

Thanks for the quick reply's. Mike I tried searching @#$%& for renzetti motor and came up with nothing, which are you using? It looks like it needs a 1/4" shaft for the pulley, I can't find one large enough with the smaller shaft.
Henry I like the drill idea, I have the foot pedal that came with the Renzetti, not sure if it is the 6 amp, here it is on their website
Also how did yo

After burning up 2 of the Dayton 1/10 HP motors, I want to have a motor dedicated to turning grips on my Renzetti. $180 is not in the budget right now for the Renzetti motor.
Has anyone successfully rigged a motor, like a drill, to their lathe. I'd prefer to not get a mini lathe as I turn some of my grips on the blank.
Also, is their an alternative for a wrapping motor that doesn't cos

If you decide to build with the Aftco lightweight guides make sure you get the blank diameter at the location of each guides. The feet are rounded and the only fit a range of blank diameters.

Makes me want to go rob a bank, I'm at work and these guts are sitting back spinning rods with a wonder weaver no less, the only problem is I like to fish my rods after I build them.
