Not at all Owen. I completely agree! However, even with CP the guide wrap will still be strong enough to be just fine. So it's a choice, use or not, I prefer not. DR

Welcome Steve. Like said, If I have a long metallic wrap I ALWAYS use the thinnest, slowest cureing finish available. CP on metallic = a mess for me. I tried it once, never again, no need for it. DR

Thanks Joe I just may take you up on that. :-) Really like the hose idea, maybe incorporate that into a fire marbled area...... I've got some pictures coming from the station guys and I sent Billy V an email about a grip that may suit..... DR

I have a rod to build as a gift to a Fire Chief that is leaving the station and retiring. The budget is naturally very small, but I have the basics in mind. What I am curious about is: are there any decals and such already set up for something like this? Has anyone done one before and want to share some tips? This will be a largemouth bass rod, casting platform, split grip, no forgrip sty

Different brand metallic's ARE different! Some are hard to work with, they twist, the foil comes off and they show silver underneath....others like Sulky Original Metallic are a DREAM to work with. Just a hint :-) DR

Metallic is on a rod I just wrapped yesterday, full wraps in metallic. ALL my personal rods are metallic.I love using it, and have been for a long time as a full wrap. Very strong, never had a failure, never needs CP, never fuzzy. Metallic is a WIN-WIN. DR

Peter, I have marbled several seats. The key to graphite seats is to CLEAN them well to remove all the release agent FIRST, then scuff them WELL, use an adhesion promoter, then your topcoat, and your topcoat must be flexible, be it paint or finish or whatever. DR

What everyone is wanting.... is to use as many SMALLER LIGHTER WEIGHT guides as possible (running guides), this is why the 27X makes everyone say :"do what?". On most bass rods the 27X is more a cone of flight style in my opinion. What happens when you change reels on the same rod? Will your rod no longer perform AS well because your reel spool on the new reel is different in diamet

I'm with Bob, 2pc limits your options a bit. I mainly build smallie rods and the 783-2 would be my choice. DR

Alcohol. But, I suspect you will loose your wrap or put up with it being "imperfect" no matter what you do at this point. I'd remove it and re-do the wrap....stinks.....but that is a perfect fix. DR

Think of your guides as you would a scope on a high power rifle. Line them up progressively with one inside the next inside the next inside the next all the way to the 1st smallest guide, then straight out same size. Like this: DR

David Stanfield You asked a simple question that I am sure is confusing as @#$%& by now. your question: " Can I use the same "casting" blank " Answer: YES I hope that clears some of the clouds for you. DR

Building EITHER a spinning rod OR casting rod on any blank you like is FINE! DO IT, after all you like the blank and you already know what it is and isnt. No confusion: a rod blank can be built into any style rod you like! Casting, spinning, fly.....are all just STYLES. DR

Well, For me 5min epoxy does great. It heats well when you wish to remove a top and never does one come loose. Please spare me, I know the pros and cons,... the pros well out weigh the cons for me. DR

Split grips I like. Split seats I like even more. ALL my rods carry both. Never once lost a reel. Seats are all castaway's that I split. Striped Bass have bent my rods back into the split of the grips! Still no reels lost. Comfort seems very good for me, I enjoy the feel of the rod and lack if the seat, but that is all personal preference stuff anyway. DR

Roger is dead on........Stanly Surform planer. I use one of these for everything to get the basic shapes I want, wonderful little tool, buy two! I occasionally break one. I just buy the surform file itself and use it in hand. DR
