Spacing a Reel Seat From Last (Largest) Guide

Is there a rule of thumb or a calculation for spacing a reel seat from the last (largest guide)? Or should I just mount a reel on a reel seat and use my deflection tool to determin the proper spacing from my reel to the last guide, the same as I do for guide to guide spacing?

I do the handle first then start at about 18 - 25" from the spool face -- to start-- Then one guide per foot plus one - to start. Then static test And test cast

X2 on Bill's comment.

Position your reel on the blank for a comfortable fit for the type fishing your are doing.

Then, mark the blank for your guides that you would like to use.

Good luck

Correct placement of butt guides on spinning rods may not use static test determination.

Think of your guides as you would a scope on a high power rifle. Line them up progressively with one inside the next inside the next inside the next all the way to the 1st smallest guide, then straight out same size. Like this: [i128.photobucket.com]

By all means go with the NGC setup. As far as a min/max....say 18" minimum and 28" maximum.

I think you'd want to locate your reel seat first, and then position the butt guide from there.
