Hey everyone! Looking to put some pictures about the size of a penny on the butt end of my handle but know I don't have the hands to cut a perfect circle. Looking at the tools that cut something that small, everything seems to be expensive. Any tips on how to achieve the same outcome without the spending? Thanks much, Jon

Thanks for all the help, I do worry about the steadiness of my hands, however, I'm not rotating the blank very fast so maybe I'll give that a shot. I try to stay away from my power wrapper when applying epoxy as the rod seems to creep away out of the wrapper...Thought about glueing in the rubber holds to the wrapper but am not sure that's the best solution.

Hey all, Thought I had the bright idea of putting down some masking tape towards the foot of my guides so I could get a straight line on my finish for each guide. However, the epoxy just soaked up into the tape and left me with a mess to clean up. Just wondering if anyone has used that blue painters tape and if that would work better? Thanks,

Thinking about getting into a few new Musky rod builds and looking at blanks. I like the price on the MHX rods but never used one or felt the action. Any one currently using a 8'6 or 9' MHX musky blank that they like or have something to say about them? Thanks!

Hey all, Had a buddy drop off a rod for a new tip top and I'm still a little confused on tip top size. I read the article in the magazine but it never mentioned what the mm size would be for diameter of a rod. could you help with what size tip I would need for a musky rod with a 3mm tip on it? Thanks!

Hey all, I've been doing some work with my inkjet printer and was wondering what brands of paper people have found to work the best with waterslide decals on a rod? I've bought one brand bu the decal comes off with a white background which wont look the best. Are there brands that make completely transparent decal paper? or is there a way to make the white background on the paper I bought mor

Hey all, Just finished my first layer of epoxy on a musky rod I'm fixing for a friend, used Aftco epoxy for the first time and it came off a little light. I know I will do another coat but was almost thinking a third depending how the second coat looked... nothing wrong with three coats of epoxy is there? besides weight and waste of epoxy that is... Any one else us this stuff?

Hey everyone, Do taking a reel seat off last night and things got a little rough...one thing lad to the next and before I knew it my middle rod support had busted off where it adapts to the rod smith rails. The problem is I can't find any replacement rod supports for this wrapper online. Was hoping someone may know where to look? Thanks for the help, Jon

I've had much positive response when it comes to the spiral wraps I've built for friends/family. They are always a little skeptical at first but are always surprised at the smoothness of the cast.

Hiya, I have a buddy that picked up a St. Croix Big Dawg rod a while ago that has a bunch of chips in the blue paint all down the blank. He's asking if I can make it look nice again. Never tackled a project like this. Any advice on how to fix the chips up? I'm not really sure how to fix it without the some type of paint or sealer or something... Appreciate the help!

Hiya, I'm looking for somewhere that may build some custom EVA block that could put a name or logo printed into the middle of it. I would like to put my logo in the middle of a EVA handle but not quite sure how to put it on the EVA and keep it on there permanently Any ideas? Thanks, Jon

Mitch, I have built multiple Musky rods with the Batson blank you are talking about and have had good feedback from their users. However, the musky rods I built were for casting not trolling. I think going with a glass blank may be a better idea for trolling if that is the ONLY type of fishing they plan on doing with it (glass to me is a bit tougher, especially when the cold wether comes a

When thinking about ways to paint blanks I decided to build holders that hold the rod vertically. I drilled holes in the middle of decent sized blocks of wood, then screwed in the certain size threaded rod that fits the diameter of the butt fo the rod blank. This way I can add nuts onto the threaded rod where I want the rod blank to stop. I also tape the top of the rods with tefelon tape so

I've used "goo gone" before but don't like to to use that stuff on an unfinished rod... I have, instead of my fingernail and a wet cloth, used the tip of a dental tool on top of a thin paper towel. This gives you a smaller pressure point but be carful to not scratch the blank.

He will mostly be trolling crankbaits in deeper water, Thank you for the heads up on the Hercules rod I will be looking into that.

He is going to be cranking for walleyes, line range will be dependent on the fish and the lake so it may be difficult to get an exact answer ofr the line range. I did find the Batson telescopic blank that I want to use (considering he would like telescopic and it's a medium with moderate power). Thank you for the suggestion with the surf blanks I will be looking into them as well.

Or would a telescope rod 1-piece be my best choice? are there any manufacturers that sell these?

Hey everyone, I got a customer looking for a 9' MH moderate action trolling/casting rod which I'm having troubel picking out. I found a few two piece options but he insits on having a one piece. The rod I'm looking at right now is a Batson SW1088 (MH Mod-Fast) but it's a saltwater/jig stick. He also wants the rod painted a bright color but that's whole different story... I just want the ri

I may be mistaken but I've hear a number of rod builders say the use the program Quickbooks to help track inventory, sales, invoices ect... This may not be a bad choice although it is more expensive then simple excel sheets. I use the program at my current job and I have to vouch for it, we would be lost without it. Good luck,

I'm building a bass rod with smaller REC guides and I noticed the tip top is much larger than 4 top guides I bought that are size 4.5. I bought the smaller REC guides to increase accuracy and also to be lighter, but I'm worried the larger tip-top will eliminate the accuracy that the smaller guides provide. I need the tip top to fit a size 4.5 but with a smaller diameter ring (4.5 as well). is
