Last summer I broke one of my St Croix Avid crank bait rods (my fault), I really liked the rod, so I built another one for myself. This time I used the casting Microwave guides on it. Feeling that before I build them for customers, I wanted to experience them myself. I have been very pleased with the spinning version but I am a doubting Thomas. The first time out with the new rod and

I have a brand new blank that my customer wants painted white. Right now it is just clear coated. Never having used the Citri Strip are you guys sure there is no harm to the blank ? If not I would like to try it. Or should I just light (600 grit) sand and paint over the clear? Tom

Hi Roger When my client came to me he brought his broken old rod with him. As we discussed options, colors, etc on the new rod he mentioned how much he liked that ratchet type foregrip and wanted the same if possible. I told him that I didn't believe it was available based on the fact that I had never seen this setup anywhere from my suppliers before but would check again. At this point I

A customer gave me a panfish rod sold by Gander Mountain and asked me to build one just like it. Problem is, it has a reel seat on it that looks just like the Fuji IPSHKS seat. The down locking front grip has a ratcheting stop built into it and in front of the reel seat is a hexoginal piece about 1 1/4 long that goes up into the foregrip. Having looked everywhere I know to find such an item

Just recieved my Rodmaker magizine yesterday. As I eagerly look forward to every issue this one llooks exceptional. I just breezed through the material presented and can't wait to read every word. Even though I feel every issue is checked full of information, this month I was really impressed. Mr Kirckman thank you for an outstanding job !! Kudos to Ross Van Enckevon on the spider wrap

Frank I did one of these rods this summer. It was the yellow fiberglass rod and I was asked to clean up and put new guides on it. What I believe you have here is mildew and I got it off using Soft Scrub rubbed in gently. I have posted some pictures in the photo gallery (although in reverse order) and I can't figure out how to change it. But if this is what you have it came out very go

Sanford The Tidal Wave in either spinning or casting (which you didn't mention) offer titaniium coating over stainless steel ONLY on the stripping and transition guides. The running guides, which are 7 out of the 9 guides are 100% titanium and totally corrision free. This looks like a pretty good set to me for saltwater use. Many of us have built plenty of rods using this system, a

Andi, All good suggestions above but here is another idea. You can turn (sand) the handle down from the butt to the reel seat making sure it is the same diameter all the way up and a bit larger ( 2 to 3 mm) over the blank. Then ream or drill out a new cork handle so that it just fits over the old one. Cover the old grip with Pro Paste or Rod Bond then slide and rotate the new handle over th
