I would like to see a power wrapper with a reverse on the motor. This would be great for cork with a tool rest. And also to be able to back up if a thread happens to jump over while wrapping.

When your pedals get super hot and sparkle that indicates resistance. Did you feel the wires to see if they were hot too? If so, you may be a little light on the gauge of wire.

If you look at some of the other photos next to this in the gallery, one you can see the black coming down to the blank. And yes I believe it was done with a felt tip pen also.

755. Re: Winding checks
I like the idea of the acrylic and can make to the exact size as well, thanks for that idea Dick. In my spare time I make pens and have all the equipment to make this winding check.

756. Winding checks
I have a customer who wants green aluminum winding checks on his new rod. I have been looking for a source but not found one, most suppliers have blue, red, silver, and gold but no green.
Any help in finding aluminum checks in green would be greatly appreciated.

I have repaired a few rods sold by Bass Pro shops that used red glitter in the epoxy and looked pretty nice. When I mixed the glitter in the epoxy all I used was whatever glitter stuck to the mixing stick and it worked very well, stayed suspended and did not leave a rough finish. Michaels has the very fine type in a six pack pretty inexpensive. And yes I did a test wrap which I would recommend

762. Re: Frog Rod
Before you buy a blank you may just want to weigh those frogs. All of my customers are using a MB 874 MHX and I have a ton of them out there . Has a great tip for distance and plenty of backbone.

Great suggestions on flexing the blank. Once I get the old reel off I am going to put one of mine on it , even if I have to tape it in place and do the flex before I remove the guides.
Roger, I am going to strip the cork and butt cap off and see what's in there. I like your idea on the rife cleaning brush and will give that a go.
I have nine rods to build in front of this project but I w

He accidentally knocked them overboard and tried for hours to retrieve to no avail.. Then six months later while fishing the same area his partner hooked them both with a crankbait by chance, and got them to the boat !

768. Rod Underwater
I was given a couple of rods that have been underwater for at least six months and asked if I could repair them. These are G Loomis rods and because of that my friend would like me to see what I can do for him.
Rebuilding to me isn't the problem as I know I can do that with no problem. My question is.....does being underwater ruin the blank or not ? There is no sense in fixing if the blank

Just a follow up to all of your suggestions. The new wrap turned out perfect. Very light CP and three coats did the job.
Bill thanks for you comments on lighter thread. The yellow was NCP and using the CP really did a. Good job on color retention.
Fist coat of epoxy looks great I really appreciate everyone's input.

Good thing I checked this board again tonight. I have already stripped and re-wrapped the rod except for tying it down. That's a good idea and one ill do on a scrap blank, don't want to do this again!
Thanks

I may have put on a little to much. The reason I used CP was on my test wrap the untreated thread looked faded
and the one with CP had good color for yellow on a black blank.
It is coming off tonight and yes ...lesson learned !!

This is a first for me on a simple chevron butt wrap, actually two firsts. Have a customer that wants a rod done in black and yellow and it was going great until I put on the CP.
I started at the butt wrap and worked my way down the rod. When I finished I looked at my butt wrap and the yellow threads were bunching up and sagging as if the thread had stretched. The other first was, using

When building rods for demanding customers I would never skimp on using glue in lieu of a good color preserver . I also prefer to use the Flex Coat as it has given me the results I wanted

My son the computer genius told me over ten years ago to stop wasting my time and money on Dell and windows and just get an Apple computer.
So I listened to him and there is no turning back, they are simply the best computer on the market...period.
My newest, a Mac Book Pro will be unwrapped on Christmas, a gift from my wife. Blistering fast and retina display on the screen ! Come on Tue
