They wanted to replace them .. . and you declined? Please tell, why??
Assuming this was not a normal fault of those blanks you would have the rods you wanted in the first place, albeit for some labor time on your part, but still.
I am glad to hear Batson standing behind their product. The blanks I have used I thought were just great!

You could ask, "Is it cheaper to go fishing, or just buy a fish?" Are you into fishing as a cheap way to put food on the table? Or as a sport / hobby that you find relaxing and or enjoyable. Then again, "Is it cheaper to buy my own boat, gear, bait, tackle, etceteras . . . or just hire a guide?"
I can't think of the last time a fishing buddy talked about how much money the

What does the inside diameter look like where it mates to the blank? Any blank through grip options? Looks like it could be real nice on some set-ups!
Thanks for the preview Karry.

I use the paper clip and rubber band attached to something with tension on the tip top. A little heat and the top pops right off, as stated above. Works great . . . don't stand in line with the tension on the rubber band.

I have a RainShadow IST1143F acid wrapped and use a string type bobber stop trimmed to about an inch or maybe less on the tag ends to fish for steelhead. Love it! So far I have not noticed the issue you describe as the stop passes through the guides. If the tag ends are left to long that can cause the stop to hang up when casting.

I recently was asked to replace the top half of a Fenwick FS85C. I think it may currently be following around a silver salmon behind some unknown length of line somewhere in the Columbia river, or else it probably sank to the bottom by now. I have the bottom half. I contacted Fenwick customer service, but was told the following:
Dear Andrew,
Unfortunately, we do not repair rods or have any pa

what is the attraction for two part acrylic? is it very clear? faster setting? more working time? levels real nice? or curiosity. Nothing wrong with all those things. Just wondering.

wet the thread with alcohol to see if you like the color. Should be close to what you will get with no CP.

Besides just reading around this site, you can search topics and that will pull what has been covered on various topics in the past. Good luck on your first build / re-build!

It seems to me that you will only have contact at the ring where the two cones meet as opposed to along the surface of the two cones where they would lie against each other if the two cones tapered in the same direction. That may or may not be a problem.

Something else that may come into play is the type line to use, braid versus mono or co-polymer. The braid is much thinner so it has less drag from the current. When you have a fair amount of line out sideways to the current (like from shore fishing) the current pressure on the line can really come into play requiring a heavier weight to stick as compared to a braid line. Generally the water is f

I have bank fished below the dams along the Columbia for salmon, usually springers. The water is pretty fast. Since we are 'plunking' and want the weight to stick you have to throw at least one railroad spike, usually two, or the current walks it on down the channel until your stuff gets hung up on something.
Hopefully not the rig of the next person down the line! Sometimes that can be a source

Woww!! Very nice.
Thanks for sharing all that! Nice work Ted. Did you do anything to the veneer before application to make it that limber so it would not crack/split when you wrapped it down?

Some people have also used the little motors that turn a rotisserie on some grills.

21. Matching guide?
Does someone have a few guides that match the one shown? Thanks! A size 12 would be nice, single foot.

That FID looks like you could modify a knitting needle to make one. They are already hollow, just need to pick the right size for the hollow to sort of match the cord size.

One other item about spine. If you check the spine along different sections of a blank it likely will not be along the same line, rather it sort of seems to spiral around as you move along the blank. So, the "spine" you are referring to also would depend on the relative load (curvature) on the rod at any given time. That dynamic varies with weight, casting style, how hard you cast. Also

26. Re: Rod Blanks
You can use the CCS system on them. That would get some information. Also measure the tip and butt size. You can compare that with some descriptions of other blanks from the same time to get an idea.

When you ream the cork out with an abrasive reamer always remember and take care: remove any and all sanding residue (in particular grit) after reaming and before you slide the grip down into place for a test fit. Any grit knocked loose from the reamer still in the cork bore when the cork slides snugly up against the blank during a test fit is going to leave some scratches on your shiny new blank

I have not used a centerpin and reading the above is a bit confusing. Does the reel spool turn sideways when casting so the line comes off like a spinning reel? or does the spool simply rotate very freely like a baitcaster? (in this case up side down)

29. Re: glitter
Be careful with the glitter. It wants to get every where. It may save some clean up to spread some old newspaper on the counter where you are going to mix the epoxy. When I have used it I just removed the cap and some stuck to the inside top of the cap, I just tapped that over my epoxy cup to sprinkle some in. You don't need much.

I put fine gold dust glitter in epoxy a while ago to match the existing finish on a repair. The glitter did not fully suspend in the epoxy after mixing and I had to dip the brush down enough to make sure I picked up some glitter, not just finish, on each brush refill while applying it on the wraps. The end looked very much like the original wraps. Just something you may need to look for when appl
