There is a tutorial on building a spine finder here in the library. Although, if you do a search on this site on rod spine, locating the spine, which way to put the spine, etceteras . . . there is much to read. Not real sure you even need a spine finder.

I found some pearl ex powders and ordered a few colors. Lots of choices. Has anyone used the "interference" colors? How are they different from a basic color?
When these come in I have some mixing / testing / playing to do . . .

Great! Thanks for all the response. Looks like I have some shopping to do . . . . almost like a kid in a candy store.

I have some un-colored blanks I wanted to color and have read several posts on here about permagloss and its use. It seems like adding a tint / color to permagloss would be a good way to go. I was kind of hoping for a translucent finish vs. opaque like spray paint. Any success or failures out there? Recommendations for color to use as tint? Thanks!

I only recently started a subscription to Rodmaker. And I see that back issues are still available. Which issue, or issues, talks about pouring your own foam? Is there a good tutorial on the subject? Is there a back issue or tutorial about using the carbon fiber to wrap the foam? Thanks!

I like the Flex-Coat arbors for spinning reel seats. Easy to use, very light, strong connection, nice.

This newer method is much easier to get a placement for the choke guide.
The older method referred to in your Amato book, while being for me a bit difficult to align accurately the angle of the spinning reel and the rod while keeping the rod straight, made some visual sense. Could you share the basis for the number 27?
Thanks.
BTW, I have that book. Very helpful at times. I look forward to th

Thanks for some feedback / ideas!
So, basically some fine prep to break up the surface and give the finish a foothold while leaving a smooth surface (careful hand work and time), maybe some primer (need to read directions on can, I guess),
some paint,
and a nice hard clear coat for depth / protection / shininess.
I have a less expensive salmon rod that is a few years old and the handle w

Is there a good tutorial out there on painting / coloring reel seats. I am fairly new to rod building and have only built a few rods, mostly salmon and steelhead rods. The grey most reel seats are colored looks like the generic color some car parts come in before they are painted. I suppose I could try a few, make some mistakes, go through a few seats . . . and I am sure I will soon enough. But i
