Thanks Norman, will take a look at those as well. Seems everyone has went to recessed hoods on the metal seats that size. Looks like its going to be a skeleton seat and will have to turn an inset for it. Anyone know of a skeleton with a non recessed hood around 19-21 mm out side OD in metal.

Thanks Quinn, I guess that is only way to get an affordable long reel seat. I was hoping I,d missed something in my searching.

Hello all. I have a question folks, have been using A8.5 L2 reel seats for a few builds and was quite happy with this reel seat. It is long enough to fit old salmon reel feet if you only used one lock nut. Have just used last one I had and seems to no longer be available from last supplier and seems Baston no longer either. The recessed hood seat is listed still but prefer the no recessed ones.

Hoping Johnny is on the mend and recovering. Have been waiting on an order and was going to give him a call when received it. I hadn,t heard about the car accident but wishing him all the best and a speedy recovery. Daryl

I,m a big fan of Dans blanks and agree the ft might be to fast for your liking but another possiblity is an ft in 10 foot lenght. The extra foot slows the action somewhat but still lots of power for long casts. I personally prefer the ftl or sig V but usually closer than 20 m. daryl

Marty, while I can,t compare the SigV to the FTL,I finished a sig v 6wt early winter but haven,t used it yet ,live in frozen north. I built a FTL 4wt last spring and used it lots . It is a very nice rod, used it mostly with 3 wt DT lineand preformed very well. I to think I will be using the sig v one wt under as well, but will try it first and see. The FTL packs nice and short,is 9 ft long and has v

I just had a look ,what Patrick said does come up,but if you click on rod blanks from colume on left of page you will get 3 pages of blanks. Dans blanks are great and his service is too .I have always found he is more than willing to talk with you and help pick the best blank for your intended use. A real personal hands on approach that isn,t always available nowadays, and some of the best blanks

I have been suprised by UPS brokerage fees ,and had to drive 50 miles to pick up package as well as they stopped short of where I live.Never again. As far as lost stuff in mail,I,m 52 and can,t remember ever not receiving something shipped by mail, slow some times, but never lost.Us @#$%& quite a bit to,from US and overseas,no problems yet, touch wood. Those mag covers with great pics on front must h

If Your still looking ,I have had good luck with a couple of @#$%& sellers, they sell mostly guitar backs and pool cue peices of very pretty big leaf maple from west coast. Some burl and some nice curly or tiger stripe stuff. I usually start with a peice 1.5x1.5 inch by length I want for a handle. If you can drill hole accuaretly, you can get smaller sized reel seat from3\4 x3\4 pen blank, but no muc

while both blanks are very good, the FT will definately have more power.I haven,t tryed a 9ft 5wt,but have 10ft 5wt and it is an excellent rod ,drys ,weighted, wets and streamers. having said that,I also have an FTL 4wt that is also very sweet, flexes further down blank, very lite and just enjoy it more ,the more I use it.I prefer the action of 10ft FT over 9ft ,but thats maybe just me .they are fa

They were a great deal at regular price, guess they just got even better.I will also give my endorsement to these blanks . Have a few of Dan,s blanks built. like the 10 ft FT and have a FTL 4wt that I like better everytime I use it.Great blank . Try it and i bet you,ll agree. I have a 5 wt FT 10footer that I,ll never give up either. Daryl

I was hoping there would be more input on new Sig V blanks,I have 3 FT blanks built,5wt -10ft,7wt-9ft and 2wt -9ft . Love 5 wt ,haven,t used 7 wt that much I need to fish where fish are bigger,,and find I like 2 wt best with 4 wt line. they are all powerfull ,10ft seems to suit my casting style better than 9ft does. I also built a FTL 4wt last winter when they came out and like the action of it

I have turned wooden inserts and put them in a small glass jar filled with tung oil, covered with plastic lid and put in microwave , heated in short segments. you have to put lid on loosely. With out boiling the oil you can see bubbles coming out of wood when oil is hot.I have never tryed this with true oil, but bet it would work same. The inserts treated this way seem to be stable ,so far at l

My experience with shipping blanks and components has almost always been good. My advice is to have stuff shipped US postal service. there is a small fee at border, usually 8.00 dollars Canadian..I won,t buy stuff anymore if shipped UPS as there is always,in my experience ,a large fee to cross border.I have had probley 20-25 blanks shipped up from States, all fly or sprey blanks so none longer t

Way Great is a pretty accurate description of the 9ft 7 wt. I also have 10ft 5wt and love it to. I would suggest calling Dan and asking him which would suit your reguirements best. I like both rods, maybe 10 ft more, but have had it longer and used more. There both very nice , do search, there is lots of info. I,m also looking forward to casting the FTL. Daryl Dertell

Dean, I have FT 10 ft 5wt, I have never cast a TCRso can,t compare to that. I have a 9ft 6in Loomis GL3,was my favorite, Ft is better for both distance and presentation, in my opinion, have used them side by side same line same flys.I built aFT9ft 2wt and a 9ft 7 wt, but is still frozen up here, did use 2wt for 1-2 hrs with 3wt line last fall, seemed to blast it out, but would like more time with i

Tim, talk to Dan,I don,t know where in Canada you are at ,I live in BC,and if sent USmail was under 2 weeks I think last time, and marginal customs fee. Tax of coarse. Dan is usually easy to get a hold of by phone and highly recommended by me, he also has all components to go with blank. In my opinion,no expert but know a bit, the FT are great blanks, looking forward toFTL,s and won,t a SIG V or 2

Tom, I have reamed wooden inserts by wrapping a dowel with a peice of 1 inch sanding belt, spiraled up dowel. then put on lath and carefully sand out center to fit.Don,t run to fast, check often for fit.same idea should work on drillpress.Andy, please let us know when your reamer tool is available, I should get one and some manderals to. Denis. I haven,t tryed a 4 wt but have a 10 ft 5wt FT from Dan Craft. I really like it and it casts just fine with a 5 wt forward line. I also have a G L 3 Loomis 9ft 9in in 5 wt and prefer the Dan Craft to it, longer casts, can set a dry fly softer, better feel in my opinion. Daryl Dertell
