I am new at rod building but have been doing some repairs for little over a year and have been using parts that i got when i bought out a guy who retiered from rod building .some customers have been asking me about building them rods using loomis or sage blanks.i have been tring to find some suppliers in Canada but have not had any luck. I have no problem with buying US but have been told that you can't ship a 4 foot or longer tube out of the US,blanks would have to be shipped in a box driving the shipping cost way up, is this true,

Andy Snedden at the Rodbuilder Supplies link can help you ( BC). Someone has also exaggerated the cost and problems associated with sending parts across the border. There is little difference when I do business with Andy -vs- one of my US providers. I'm in the US.
G Loomis of Canada can help you when you can't find a Canadian specific blank.
Welcome to the group.

My experience with shipping blanks and components has almost always been good. My advice is to have stuff shipped US postal service. there is a small fee at border, usually 8.00 dollars Canadian..I won,t buy stuff anymore if shipped UPS as there is always,in my experience ,a large fee to cross border.I have had probley 20-25 blanks shipped up from States, all fly or sprey blanks so none longer than 5 ft packages. Who your buying from could tell you shipping costs, there will also be GST tax and provincal sales from customs. All sponcers on left are reputable suppliers and I don,t think there should be any big deal. I,ve had one package lost and it was from @#$%& and insured and supplier was super and sent another right away. I would suggest some sort of insurance as package can be checked on.Sometimes things seem to sit at customs for week or two, some times goes right through. Air mail costs more but clears customs faster. Ive had blanks from Dan Craft in Oregon to interior of BC arrive in 5-6 days. from east cost takes longer, longest was probley a month but most of that time was sitttig in customs. Sorry for length, hope this helped.Daryl

I Daryl thanks for the info, i have already bought some components and supplies from dealers in the US and you are right no trouble what so ever . i got an import number from customs canada and this realy made things move faster through customs and it was no charge for this.
also if your package is marked fishing rod building components there should be no charge at customs at all, with free trade on manufacturing
items, i have not been charged anything at customs yet except for GST .thank you

I just had a 14', 2-piece rod shipped from Michigan to me here in ANchorage, AK. The rod tube was just over 7' in lenght.
