This is the first seat I've ever turned. It is Acrylic Acetate pen blank called fire and ice. It will be going on an Ox Blood Red G-USA 702 blank with the Billy V. Angle pattern between split grips and an American Tackle Titan guide set up.

This is really a test. But while I'm here this is an American Tackle blank with red/blue grips with a purple divider, Adobe Illustrator made Speckled Trout decal and my name in an AC/DC font.

Thanks Mark! I didn't know the quality had gone bad. That might explain why I had about 6 inches of the tip break on one for no apparent reason. I had built this rod about 3 years ago.

Do they still exist? I haven't built any rods in a while and decided I'd like to check on some G-USA blanks on mudhole. They're not on there anymore. Did something happen to G-USA? Also, what happened to Custom Tackle Supply? I click the link to the left and it goes to mudhole. I was gonna make me a crappie jig pole from a rainshadow fly blank and can't find them either. It's like I just woke up

I need some hot pink paint for a blank. I've done it before mixing pigment with flex coat but really didn't like it too much. I'm wanting to find a paint that is flexible and I think I'm gonna try to airbrush some permagloss as a tough clear coat. I'm just having trouble finding the hot pink paint. Thanks, Steve

Bill, Nobody down here wants to pay for a custom rod. A lot of time goes into a truly custom rod and nobody wants to pay for that time. It's also getting expensive even at wholesale prices. I'll probably still build one every now and then and there's only so many rods I can build for myself. Oh yea! And to mention the time my 2 year old takes up and the time the soon to be here baby will take up

Bruce.....I actually did think of doing that. Just paint the entire rod pink and then start from the foregrip and spiral all the way out. I'm kinda thinking though it may look better with the stripes criss crossing up the blank. I wonder would that pose a problem having the threads running up the blank where it would have the most bend. Hmmmm! Thanks to all who for the responses and suggestio

Had a woman ask me to build a stand up rod for her which would use an electric reel. I said no problem till she told me she wanted painted Hot Pink with a bright green and yellow stripe spiraled from top to bottom. Making one hot pink is no problem, but the stripes would be. Any suggestions for this one? I'm thinking of just telling her that I can make the guide wraps green/yellow with an open b

Has anyone used one of the duplicators for the jet mini lathes from Penn State Ind. ? Just wondering if they were worth the money for turning seats and maybe pen blanks. Thanks, Steve

I had a guy want the very same set up. I did find a Pioneer Series blank PUR700DS made by Hasting's Rod Manufacturing (Graphite USA). After I told him it would be $135 he said "Maybe later". LOL I think this blank would probably do well. Even though it is a fast action I think these blanks do have a little bit softer tip than the G-USA blanks. Do wanna rip the hook out of those pape

I've always just rubbed a candle up and down the mandrel. I've never had a grip I couldn't remove. While it is still in the lathe I grab the grip and just bump the lathe start button or chuck it up in a variable speed drill. It doesn't take much to break it loose. Then I just twist it off by hand. Don't wanna spin it off too fast mechanically due to heat build up, especially on the eva grips.

Brian, You will need to get the YELLOW filter cartridges for your face mask. The yellow ones are for Acid Gas and Organic Vapors. Get an N95 or N100. These have specially treated activated carbon which absorbs certain gases and/or vapors at 95 to 100% filtration effeciency. If I were you I would use a full face respirator. That way you protect your lungs from the fumes and your whole face from f
