121. Re: Cutting e.v.a.
Steve,
Kinda feel like I'm talking to my self when I type that.LOL.....anyway that is some great information you posted. I had no idea. Would I use a stone on each side of the blade or just the one stone with nothing pressing against the blade from the other side?
Thanks for the info,
Steve

122. Re: Cutting e.v.a.
Tom,
I really couldn't see why it dull the blades either. The blades are clean and not a speck of eva on them. I could see the tablesaw blade getting too hot maybe but not the bandsaw blade. It doesn't turn that many rmps but then again it may not take a lot anyway. Gonna get some more blades and see what happens.

123. Cutting e.v.a.
Something I have noticed when cutting eva. I had some blocks that I was cutting down on my table saw with a brand new thin blade. After a few cuts it seems that the eva dulled the blade pretty quickly. It will hardly cut through a 2x4 now. I also made some cuts on my bandsaw with a brand new blade. Everything was fine for a while and now it seems that if I try to cut anything on it, the blade wan

Anybody use a spinning seat on a casting rod? I put one on but can't tell if I like it or not. Just feels kinda wierd. I guess like someone new to spiral wrapped guides. Looks odd and took some getting used to. Now spiral wrap looks completely normal. LOL Maybe this will too.
I'm wanting to turn some seats but I don't need another spinning rod right now.
Thanks,
Steve

Anybody know where you can get acrylic acetate blanks larger than 3/4x3/4? The 3/4 stuff makes for good seat material but not quite large enough to use for accent rings in grips.

130. Re: Lathe Question
I have the Delta Midi Lathe. I bought it last year for $249, free shipping and $30 rebate. The lathes the other guys have mentioned will do what you want also. They are all pretty much equal. I got mine from Tylertool.com. Since the sponsors here don't sell those type lathes I thought it would be allright to mention. Here's the link Looks like they went up on the price a little and the last day

I understood that part Jim but I didn't know what the "4" was for as in a GF7460M. I built a few of the 760Hs and the guy I built them for was quite pleased.
Them fat blanks are great for weaves aren't they Jim? LOL
Thanks,
Steve

Gotcha! Thanks Billy for clearing that up for me. A guy asked about building a red snapper rod for him and I don't think the 7460 would be the right blank. May just go with the 760M. He said he was using a Trinadad 50 with 80# braid.
Thanks,
Steve

I was looking at the Calstar Grafighters and trying to figure out their numbering system. What is the difference in the GF7455-7460s and the GF755-760s? The GF7460H has all the same numbers as the GF760H with the exception of the butt diameter....and the price. Just trying to figure out what's what.
Thanks,
Steve

I had built a stand up rod for my boss in Dale Earnhardt Jr. colors. I painted the blank a bright red, made the wraps red with black/white/gold trim. Made a grip also in red/black/white. I put my boss's name on it in a gold Budweiser font. Looked pretty cool. Never used a #8 on it though because of the copyright thing. Anyway, he informed me this morning that he knows someone who is pretty close

Kinda in a delima here. I don't know if I like the bumper guide wrapped as the same as the other guides or wrapped plain ole black. I thought black would be better because it wouldn't stand out as much and therefore the guide spacing would look normal in between the first two guides. But then if it's wrapped liked the other guides it is more noticable and the spacing looks odd. Hmmm! I'm stuck he

Antti.....I saw your pictures. Very nice work. The acrylic acetate pen blanks make for some very interesting seats, checks and butt caps. Show us more as you progress.

144. Re: Build Off?
If I could build a rod nice enough to be displayed I'd do it in a heart beat. LOL
Who needs a competition? Too many firendships would be blinded by egos.
Besides....if I could build a rod that nice....I'd rather have it on the cover of RM than beating out someone in a competition.

There was a post a while back about wrap spacing to make closed wraps close properly and Tom had a simple way of making the calculations. I couldn't find it. Could someone post their or Tom's method for wrap spacing....or find the post? I think that's why my wraps haven't been closing like I would like them to.
Thanks,
Steve

I was thinking about offering to members of a local fishing club converting their conventional rods into bumper system rods. What I was stuck on is how much to charge for each guide. What do y'all think would be a fair price? I was thinking in the neighborhood of $5 - $7 per guide plus the cost of the additional bumper guide. One other thing.....do you think this would be a good idea or not since

I wouldn't attempt to get any. I was just wondering because I know a young guy who is getting into fly fishing and limited on his funds.
