I'm using a Shimano Sahara 4000FB and this will be the reel that goes on it when it's time to snatch some lips!

Art, I just went back and looked and you were right. when I looked on their site I didn't scroll down passed the guides to see the chart of guide heights. Sorry for being a dunce. Thanks Art! Steve

Emory, I see what you're saying and agree. And yes I am trying to get the maximum performance from this rod. This one is for myself but I would want a customer to have that same performance also. I also had an idea about the "laying the rod on a table edge thing". I'm thinking of making a level straight line on one wall of my shop and screw two pegs into the wall on that line. Then

I bet if I brought it to the Show you would be the first one to whip a tape measure! LOL You're probably right about the thinking too much. My little pea brain is fried!

Mike, I don't know what heigths the AmTak guides are but from the testing I did I need the lower frame guides instead of the high frames. When I tried to use a concept guide it would put the guide too close to the reel and the would line make a sharp turn to the next guide. Then if I tried to go from a 25 down to a 20 concept guide it would be about the right distance form the reel but again it

I did not consider them because I couldn't find any specs on them as far as guide heigth. If you know where I can find that I'd gladly see if they would work. Thanks, Steve

In the process of setting up a spinning rod using the New Concept set up method described in the library I found that we really don't have that many choices of guides. The rod I'm building called for certain size guides and heigths. I researched the specs on guides from Fuji, Forecast and Pacbay all of which are great products. But what my rod called for was Fuji, I guess, normal heigth guides. I

Chris, Please don't say "Steve's guide placement". I was just trying something different which didn't work. LOL I went back and did some more guide placement. So far the best placement has been a #25(lvsg type) butt guide at 17 inches from the spool face and a #12(lvsg type) 7.75 inches from the butt guide. The intersect guide (#6 tlsg) is 5.75 inches to the #12. So there are only t

I believe you're right Tom. Bill, I did do just like you described except that I put the center of the guide rings at the table edge instead of the outter part of the ring on the edge. Don't think that's gonna work. If I were to go with all Fuji guides I will have a couple concept guides and a regular heigth guide from the butt guide to the intersect guide. What I ran into is if I used all co

I'm using a 25 about 19 inches from the spool which is 46mm. I tried using a 20 but it made the line take another angle and it was about 23 inches from the spool. This one is really testing my patience! LOL

I just taped on some guides like I mentioned in my post. I did have line slap with an 1/8oz weight coming in and then less with a 1/4oz. I had no slap what so ever going out and almost no noise. I guess I'll keep tinkering.

After getting the responses from the post on the problem I had with the new concept guide set up I got to thinking about what Bill Boettcher said "I do my line path so the line goes inside the rings of the guides. My thinking is gravity pulls the line down so this give me more line in the ring, instead of sliding on the edge of it." I wonder if it should be that the center of the gui

Bill S., I also used the LRSGs like Shawn did. I started with 4 inches from the tip and just went from there. I think I used a 20,16,12,12,10,10 &10 with an Aftco 112 roller top. The guy I built them for uses them for bottom fishing for snapper and Amberjack. He also likes to hammer down on the drag to snatch fish away from oil rigs. Like I said he's using 125lb line on them. And he's doing

Bill, The 760H is a fast action. I wouldn't think that tip is not to small. If anything I'd think the rod is overkill for a 40 pound fish. The three that I built are using 125lb test on them. He won't bend it into a U and he couldn't do that anyway because he can't be fishing the rod straight up vertical. I think his fishing tactics and his own misunderstanding of what he thinks he wants is part

Bill, I have built three rods just like you've described. I built them on a Calstar Grafighter 760H. No complaints so far and they do just what this guy is doing. Yanking fish off the bottom.

Tom, You don't think a 20 would be too small for that spool diameter?

Is there any specific information out there for the guide heights of fuji guides? I don't have a low frame in front of me but if I had the height I could still use that compared to the SiC Concept guide I do have and then know what I need to order. Thanks, Steve

Mike, It's the 3/4 x 3/4 pen blanks from Arizona Silhouette. I turned one down this morning and it looks like it will fit a #16 & #17 skeleton seat. But you have to make sure you center bore it perfectly and as soon as you get it turned to round you gotta stop. At that point you have very little room for error. Other than that, probably all you can do is make checks and inserts for buttcaps.

I have not ran into this before. I'm building a GUSA 702 spinning rod. I've got the seat on temporarily with the reel. Set it up on the table, get my intersect point and place my smallest guide so that the outter part of the ring is even with the edge of the table. No problems there. When I go to place my butt guide....boom! Problem! Going by the primer in the library section I choose a #25 SiC C

I was on a fishing site that was asking about them. How is the blank and the "grip" assembled? Does it go inside the blank a distance to make it rigid in the butt of the blank or what? Just wondering how some of the stress is alleviated so prevent cracking the blank under pressure? Thanks, Steve

I second Tom's suggestion of the Canon Digital Rebel XT. I just bought one a couple of months ago and it is an awesome camera. But as most professional photographers say "Cameras don't make great shots....lenses do". Spend some money on good lenses. If your just doing shots for the web I wouldn't invest as much. If you plan on doing more than that, spend the money on a good camera and l

I had to get the driver also for XP from ALPS. As far as the metallic cartridges go just put one in all the way to the right side. Then you have to check mark the "spot colors" box, then "single ink" from the drop down menu and then choose the single ink cartridge you want. Steve
