61. Pushing threads
What do y'all use for pushing and packing your threads? I use the end of the burnish tool from Gudebrod but it doesn't do good in tight places trying to move a single thread. I also use a bodkin but my point seems to be cutting the threads when trying to move them around. Just wondering what other tools might be used to push and pack threads.
Thanks,
Steve

Does anyone have kind of a tutorial for using PC Stitch to make weave patterns?
Thanks,

G-USA for inshore and freshwater and Calstar Grafighters for big water. I will still use other blanks but if these two have what I need then that's what I go with.

Tom,
It did darken uniformly like you said so hopefully I've done it right. We'll find out tomorrow when I put a coat of finish on it.
Thanks,
Steve

Tom,
I gave it a good coat to where it changed the shade of the thread consistanly through out the wrap. It wasn't what I would call a flood coat but just a good coat.
Thanks,
Steve

72. C.P. questions
I just finished putting a coat of 811 cp on a wrap. The wrap did turn a darker shade but I knew that would happen. How many coats of cp is normal, how long between coats and how long to let dry before applying a finish?
Thanks,
Steve
btw, this is my first time using Madeira threads and cp. So far I love the threads but am still leary of the cp. (fingers crossed)

Billy,
I was wanting to print out the spacing image to use it to make my marks on the blank where the pattern would start. I'll try it through paint and see what happens.

Back from tinkering. No matter what settings I change it will not print in color. My default settings are "color" and "normal". There's something in VW that just will not let it print color. Oh well, I'll just work with shades of gray.
Thanks,
Steve

Dave,
I've tried twice to get another password, because I can't remember mine, and I have never heard anything back. I'll keep checking the printer settings and tinkering.
Thanks,
Steve

Cartridges are fine. Once I get the spacing screen up I choose to print it, then select printer preferences and select to print in color at best quality. It then does a quick print in black and white. It's like it defaults to black and white. I don't know what the problem is. It printed the RBO home page in color and everything else I've tried just not the VW spacing image. Weird!

I'm trying to print a pattern in color. I choose the color setting in my printer preferences but it still comes out in black and white. How do you get VW to print in color?
Thanks,
Steve

I have always used a single foot or double foot casting guide for butt guides on a spiral wrap rod. Never has it seemed to give me any problems or deminish performance. I have noticed that some people use a high frame guide for the butt guide. Why would you use a high frame butt guide? I'm not questioning anyone's methods but simply looking for answers as to why some do and some don't.
Thanks,

Mike,
I do it for the fun of it. I probably sell half a dozen rods per year and really don't make much off of them. I never practice any wraps or anything.....like Nike, I just do it and hope it comes out all right. LOL But I do learn something from every rod I build and that's what makes it fun.....oh yea and having someone tell me how much they love the rod I built for them is nice too.

81. Re: Epoxy Poll
Did use Flex Coat and it was ok, then tried LS Supreme and hated it. I finally settled on Aftcote and been very pleased with it. No reason for me to try anything else.

Thanks Stan! I just purchased my first batch of Madiera threads and it just so happens I bought a few shades of red that might fit that redfish pattern. I sure like all those color choices. I now have to overcome my cp phobia. LOL Thanks again for the patterns.

No Doc! Didn't think that at all. I knew what you were talking about. The reds we catch around here can be almost white to a deep dark bronze color. They sure are fun to catch. Thanks for the ideas of colors.
Thanks,
Steve

I understand about the fish in different locals. Just trying to get an idea of about what colors to use in general. Knowing me, I would pick the wrong shade of red and it will look more like a red snapper. LOL

Thanks to Stan Gregory for posting the redfish weave on the photo page. Now, I have a question...what color threads to use if using Madiera or Gudebrod threads to get the colors right?

I've been lucky enough to have the reel, that will be used, in front of me to set up spinning rod guide placement on rods that I have built. What I would like to ask when you don't have the reel how do you go about determining, I guess you would call it a generic guide set up? Can't always have the reel because sometimes you or the customer haven't decided that yet.
Thanks,
Steve

Josh,
I took all the guides back off and re-did the tabel edge thing. Don't know what I did different this time but the intersect point ended up futher up the blank. This allowed me to use the same guides as you mentioned. But the line from the but guide to the next guide made another angle. Also the butt guide was only 13 inches from the spool face. I made several test cast and it did cast pret
