I too have tried most all the systems on the market from simple jigs to plate glass ect. Never happy with the results, I finely gave in and got a Tormek and have never looked back! Simple to use with repeatability. A bit pricy if you have to get all the attachments at once, I didn't, only got a few that I needed and continue as needed. The difference between sharp and really sharp is amazing!

Mike--go to the top of the page in the red banner that says "GO TO:" and click on search, type in thread tension for your subject, click on one year and all forms, I just got 13 pages, or 383 seperate entries. Your could go back longer if you like as well. Also type in sprial or bumper wraps as well; you will be amaized at the information. It'll take a while to learn to navigate th

Michael-Go up to the top and click on Photos-you will find many spiral wrapped rods in most of the categories so you could see them for yourself. You could also use the search button and find out all you could ever want to know about the topic, it been discussed many times. And no, not on a fly rod. Spiral wrapping is for bait casting reels only, all others are already on the bottom-spin and f

I got my Optivisor last Dec and haven't looked back! My thanks to all who suggested it to me! That coupled with a good lighting should keep us all going for a few more years hopefully. I remember being fourty, does that count? LOL

Jason, My first experience with dry wall tape worked out well, I measured as you did, unwound and started to reapply - but I started to wrap it DRY onto the rod for about 4-5 turns - then I started to apply the epoxy, rod bond in my case, and continued to wrap around the rod. That may have been your undoing, or perhaps your brand of epoxy just melted the drywall glue and cased all of your proble

Dennis; as Lock stated above, over correct the guide a little which will move your guide foot more in line with what you want. Then you can bring the guide ring back to where you need it. It sounds like you could also back off a little on your thread tension on your next project, not much, but you should be able to move it a little easer than what youre going through now. Good luck and let us

While the Polomar knot is widely used, and retaines "~95 % of line strength", and has landed a untold number of large fish--I've just recently learned of a new knot, at least to me, and I'm starting to use the double improved clinch or rivers inlet knot from British Columbias famed Rivers Inlet; think huge and powerful Chinook salmon! This knot is said to retain "~100% of line str

Steve; You are, I'm afraid, just like a lot of us here--way beyond professional help!!! From a two color geometric symbol to a full blown dragon, my hat's off to ya! There are at least four Dragon masters here, that all do incredible work, and I hope they chime in. I've not gotten that brave myself, as of yet! But keep us posted, and keep up the fight! Best wishes.

John; Another brand you can use is Robison-Anton. It's a bit stronger than most of the others, acording to my wife, and comes in a zillion colors. I've just started using them for my grandaughters first rod, pink 'n purple don't ya know! The colors will knock your eyes out!!!

Marty, I ran into this very problem on the rod I'm working on now! First off, I would suggest that you go ahead and tape on your guides according to what you've already worked out, stress test, and then test cast the thing. Aside from looking a little off, you might find that all is well. That said, there are several things you can do to tweak what you already have. First off, I'm not famil

Dan; Yes, just do the wrap in a figure 8 and you've got it. Sounds like you might have to start a thread or two sooner from what I unserstood you to say. You don't want to go up the leg of the guide, and don't forget to continue with two or three wraps just around the rod, after the last locking wrap behind the guide too.

Hi all, I spoke to the owner of Anglers Workshop today, and he advised me that he has no intention of dropping the size B thread. His inventory is low, but the manufacture is in the process of moving, to a USA location, so it may take awhile to get more inventory. Just in case you wanted to know.

Mary Lou. Good morning to you. Maybe what you're seeing is someone who is just buying regular rods and applying fancy butt wraps and such and calling it semi custom, and jacking up the price. You know how cheap the rods are at Wally World and other so called sporting good stores. Seams there's always somebody working an angle.

Tom; like Ray said about using a flame, hold the rod UNDER the flame, not on top. This avoids the dreadded soot problem he spoke of. Also you might try not using your regulay thread tensioning device for trim wraps, may be causing you problems also, ie fraying. Ray, what are you doing up this time of night, I thought I was the only idot working graves!

Jason, Think figure 8. Up and around the guide, then down and around the rod. Do this three times: and start before the vertical section of the guide by two or three thread wraps, then do two or three blocking wraps after the guide. There you have it. As far as moving them afterwords, a little tough. Better to get them lined up before the locking wrap. Good luck to you. Any further proble

Hi Rob, Pack the thread as tight as you can get it, and then burnish it to help hide the tails. Then practice some more if you're like me when I started. But mostly, have fun while you're doing it.

Steven; The only draw back I'm aware of is that PG offeres NO UV protection, so your colors will fade. But it sure does give a real nice retro look to the threads. Try it, you just might like it.

For all you thread artists out there. What power magnification works best for thread work??? I’ll have to order off the internet as I’ve not been able to find anyone close by that carry them. I’d like to get an idea of what’s available. Feel free to e-mail me if you wish. Thanks for your opinions. Happy holidays to all.
