For all you thread artists out there. What power magnification works best for thread work??? I’ll have to order off the internet as I’ve not been able to find anyone close by that carry them. I’d like to get an idea of what’s available. Feel free to e-mail me if you wish. Thanks for your opinions.
Happy holidays to all.

Fred:
I think you will want to use either the 2 1/2 X Magnification hich as a focal length of 8" or the 2 3/4 X Magnification which has a focal length of 6" I use both the 2 1/2 most of the time the 2 3/4 when I am doing a final inspection of my thread packing. For what is is worth I like the optivisor over the Bausch & Lomb

I have both the 8 inch focal length (Lens Plate #5) and the 6 inch focal length (Lens Plate #7. The 8 Inch lens magnifies 2.5 times and the 6 Inch lens goes to 2.75 magnification.

I like the 8 Inch focal length and have never used the 6 inch one. Also, I got the flip-down Optiloupe monocular magnifier, which gives provides an additional 2.5 monocular magnification.

A local jeweler let me try out various magnifications that he uses and ordered it for me.

8 inch focal length is what I'd recommend for rod work. The flipdown lens also comes in handy sometimes. You'll be happy with the Optivisor!

Hope this helps. Stan

Mine is 2.5X, and only cost $16.95 from a sponsor (Jann's). So far it has worked great - now I don't know how I lived without it. I am starting to use it for all sorts of things besides rodbuilding - working on reels, cleaning guns, etc. Guess that is just a function of getting older.

Ditto to Steve's response (Jann's); it's perched on my head right now. I love it; my old lighted swing arm magnifier sits in the back room, gathering dust now. My old (Jann's) one sits in Italy right now on Italo's head; he grabbed it from me at Charlotte as none of the booths there sold any and he needed one bad to take back with him.
