I completely agree on the Rainshadow XST822.5-TC. Spiraled mine with micros and matched it with a Liberto Pixy loaded with 6 lb., the whole outfit weigh in at 8.7 oz.

A center pin looks like an over size fly reel. Most of them have a shaft mounted on the backplate that slides into two bearings on the spool itself. The reel is in a continous free spool and is controled by finger pressure on the spool , you fight the fish by palming the spool. There are casts that take the line off the side of the spool but for the most part the line feeds off the reel like

I agree heartly agree that spey conversions work well out here on the West Coast. The majority of the float rods I build are on the Rainshadow RX7 spey blanks and my customers have been extremely pleased with their performance, but like Dave said we are fishing bigger fish and heavier flows.

Depending on how much you need to increase the circumference, the suggestion by Jim to do an under wrap works well. (been there ,done that)

I've tried most of the epoxies out there and have had good results from more than one of them but I have to admit I'm totally enamored with the working properties and the finished product I get with Threadmaster.
