You can add a poker chip or two (Rich Forhan trick) in the cork to give the reel foot something hard to rest on. Other materials could work too. I just put a piece of strapping tape on each end on the foot and that locks it down well. I cover this with regular black tape. These have both been covered in RM and on here.

If it had been two hours it might have been set enough to do fine. Although sticky it should have pretty well set as far as sags go?

Interesting stuff. I will have some options for next time I add a keeper which I plan to do one several rods. Most all my rods are split grip and I have not put a keeper on the split area may need to try that with a Fuji band mounted keeper and see how that spot works.

Thanks. I will put them as suggested, sounds good. I had a bad experience on a spinning rod with the hanger between the seat and first guide. Line would catch on it even though it was on top of the blank. To far forward!

I have a few questions about hook holders and their placement. 1. On most casting rods I see the holder is in front of the grip a few inches and under the blank. Does this work for most bass rods? 2. When wrapping the holder do you wrap the blank where the hook will rest while in use? I am using the longer holders and this means I have to wrap and finish the "hook" part then place t

Just to be sure, these guides are mounted with the single foot toward the reel?

Yes I heard that will cost the economy 2 billion dollars a day! That's more that my credit card bill! Would this include the TRVAG-6 guides I have been unable to find?

Strapping tape holds the real in place. Then I cover with black electrical tape. Actually once the strapping tape is on any cover is fine!

Marty I have two St Croix ML powered rods with Cl4's on them. I have size 20 KL-H at 20.5 inches from the reel foot with the choke point about 45 inches from the reel foot center. One reel has 7 pound Sniper FC and the other 15 pound braid. The FC casts well and of course the braid will outcast it easily. I noticed the new Fuji/Anglers catalog gives a choke guide location In the 27 inch range

Should be several in the Musky blanks. I briefly looked at St Croix and they kist them up to 12 ounces!

Here is one I heard at the show. Wrap from in front of the guide post down to cover the foot. Line everything up, do your testing etc. then put a final wrap from the bottom as you would normally wrap including a locking and blocking wrap. The guys at Anglers Resource showed me this one.

Guys I think Do-It used to make a mold for casting lead weights for inserting into the blank. I have not checked in a while so they may be discontinued?

St Croix had a lot to do with these according to Jason. I let my Wife pick one and to my surprise she picked the Burnt Orange! Had to get some advice from Billy on color selections too!

I also rebuild and "improve" my rods. I even had several in mind to put new guide trains on and now I will use a new Fuji bottom guide before I even get started! Also I changed the split grips on an older GUSA to EVA I got two years ago from Billy V. This was a pretty easy project and I really like the results. The improvement I do most is new guides as the micro guides developed.

Taking a hint from Aaron Marten's MegaBass spinning rods I used the Fuji SK reel seats with EVA fore grips on two Drop Shot and Finesse spin rods. They give me the option of gripping the rod completely in front of the reel foot with little penalty if I grip it between my middle fingers. I like it and will continue to experiment with this style. Most of my spinning rods have been no fore grip u

No these were all just "bands" around the center of the grip, orange, white, orange maybe 1/16 inch each. I will try and post a picture when I get the bottom rubberized ring installed and trimmed.

Billy, yes they are black with orange and white trim bands. I buttered the inside of the bottom grip and it went on easily. I was careful not to twist too much and had no problem at all. The front grip was a little more difficult as I did not want to put Rod Bond inside the grip before installing. I simply buttered a couple of inches below where the bottom would be and again no problem at all

I have a Croix 6'9" MLXF SCV drop shot rod and really like it. It is a ML but has plenty of mid blank power. In fact I have several St.Croix's in both M and ML power and use them a lot.

I am replacing the grips on one of my older rods. I put the rear grip by slipping it on the blank from the bottom of the rod. I used my usual Rod Bond and after placing the grip wonder if it scraped too much of the rod bond off? I "buttered" the blank only since I did not want to have epoxy cover the entire handle area of the rod. The fit was "snug".

Like Bob suggested a wrap or two of strapping take will guarantee no slipping, then cover with the tape of your choice or shrink wrap! I also like to sand a flat spot where the foot will sit, not much just wide enough for the reel foot. Of course you will not do this on a graphite grip! I also cover the area where the reel will be taped on with a layer of masking tape before putting the reel o

I have wrapped all my casting rods using spiral wraps since before 1990 and migrated to micros as they became available. I was looking at a set of microwaves for a spinning project and saw that they also come in a casting set. I too did not see much if any advantage on a casting setup so I thought I would ask and see if anyone could respond? The project is an 8' crank bait rod for deep divers

Any issues or tricks to using the Microwave guides on a spiral wrapped casting rod? Should I just use a transition guide as the "transition" to the bottom guide? I want to try these on an 8' heavy power crank bait rod.

I put a Z bend hook holder on my new St Croix MLXF spinning rod. It is about 10 inches or so in front of the reel face and roughly on top of the rod. Using a 2500 sized reel and 7 pound Sniper FC the line will hang on the hook hanger on a fast retrieve. I know this is telling me to move the holder but I find it hard to believe that the line will wrap around the blank enough to catch the keeper

Denatured does take the finish off the blank, I tried it. The spots do show grooves but it looks like the area is raised. I did not think about this being a raised finish but you may be spot on. Wonder if I could buff these smooth?
