Just a note on the MudHole "thin strips many colors":
I purchased these colored strips from Mudhole, (whom I think are the greatest), and built two laminated pie shaped , 5 layers with 2 shades of pink and 1 purple, colored inserts for a black EVA

Tom,
You produce an outstanding magazine. I look forward to each copy and 'am excited when I see it in my mail box.
Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do for our industry.
I can't wait to see the new additions. The thought of a monthly publication is really exciting

633. Re: Guide Calculator
Mud Hole carries the Don Morton Guide spacing chart whch allows for the placement of micro guides and Fuji Concept Guide spacing. I believe it cost something like $39.95, in that range.
I use it for placement of micro guides and have been very happy with it.

634. Re: guide alignment
I found that after aligning the guides visually on the guide side of the rod, I rotate the rod around to the back side and check how much of the guide is protruding from each side of the blank. The eye is very accurate when comparing how much of the guide is showing on each side of the blank.
I believe I saw this recommendation on this web site quite sometime ago and it works great for me.

Steve,
You might try spraying a solution of ammonia and water, say 25% ammonia & 75% water, on the bark before steaming it. I am not a chemist, (barely passed the subject), but I know it will make wood more pliable.

Marty,
I have not built either of the blanks in question; but I have built numerious RX8 Bass XSB822.5 as Drop Shot rods for clients. I have had more people come to me through "word of month" referals wanting that drop shot rod built for them. Rainshadow's XSB822.5 is the best d/s rod out there according to my customers.
I guess, I am going to have to build one for myself!

643. Re: pink rod blank
I am currently buiding a St. Croix fuchsia metallic rod for a lady who wanted a "pink" blank. I could not find a decent blank that was pink.
The St. Croix fuchsia metallic blank is pretty, although not pink. I am wrapping it with Pac Bay's Metallic Purple and trimming it with Fisk Hawk's Metallic Lavender, which is light pink in color. It should turn out real pretty. But it won't be

Mr. Staples,
I was pleased to see your e-mail reply in response to the "backhanded criticism" of Pacific Bay's blank line. While I have not personnally tried the Pacific Bay rod blanks, I feel one's critcism of another's product is unprofessional. We all strive to produce the best product we can for the target price and market. The finished products will ultimately speak for their s

I have used the Gudebrod HT Metallics on numerious RX 8+ Blanks and really line the red with silver trim or the blue with silver trim. These have all been bass rods where spooking the fish is not an issue though.
I saw in the current issue of Rodmaker Magazine, (Vol. 13 Issue 5), an article in the Rod Building News section, (Page 9), that says some former owners/ employees of Gudebrod have ac

Terry,
Mark Griffin at C & M Custom Tackle, (www.@#$%&), advised me that FUJI does make micro guide tip tops; however Anglers Resouse does not carry them. Mark placed an order directly with FUJI in Japan. I was in his shop today and he said the latest word he has is that they should be here in mid-May. he said he had to order a "bunch" of them,so once they arrive he will have th
