Chris,
I personally think a spiral warp works great and it eliminates the requirement to add additional guides to keep the line off of

Cory,
When I used the microwave casting guide system I found I had to add an additional guide to keep the line off of the blank. This was on a seven foot rod as well. I had some extra running guides so it wasn't a problem. Mudhole sells extra running guides for the microwave guide system.

You might give Swampland Tackle a call. Maybe one of their T1 rods would fit the ticket. The T1 Rod is for Alabama Rigs; but I think it would meet the need perfectly. Swampland Tackle is listed to the left give Lance a call and see what he thinks.

I shot an e-mail to Jim Ising requesting a copy of the Handle Book and got in in 3 days!

I sent Jim Ising an e-mail a couple of weeks ago and requested a copy of the Shop Reference for Grips and Fuji Reel Seats. Jim reply to my e-mail the same day with " Thanks for contacting Anglers Resource...the catalog is in the mail"! I received the catalog, (in CA), in 3 days!! Amazing!
It is a great reference tool for your clients to browse when they are not sure what they want f

Miles,
If you have tried them you might consider using American Tackle's MicroWave Guides. All of my customers now request them on their spinning rods.

Jim,
Last Saturday I place an order with Mudhole for some TORZITE Micro Guides and they are on back order. Any idea when you might be able to ship them some?
Thanks,
Don

When I first tried the elastic thread it didn't work very well for me. I then tried wrapping the thread around the blank & guide 3 or 4 times and tying a square knot on the bottom side opposite of the guide. It works great. I wrap up to the elastic thread then take a razor blade and cut off the elastic thread and continue wrapping the guide. I really like using the elastic thread when static

Don't forget a hook keeper, unless you already have one or don't want one.

David,
If you proceed with building the 8 wt. 9' fly blank, I would recommend you read in the library about static loading of the blank to assist you with determine the number of guides and their placement.

Wayne,
The only thing I can think of is perhaps the microset is affecting the Krylon spray and it is clouding up. I have done everything you have up to the point of the microset without any problems.

Brandon,
What a wonderful experience with your daughter. Thank you for sharing your memorable moments.
I am just going to have to somehow scrape together the air fare from CA and add a EXPO Attendance to my Bucket List!

Chris,
Tip size is indicated, (or measured), in 64th of an inch, so a 4.5 is 4 1/2 64th of an inch....if that make sense or is that cents?!!

Bill,
I am really glad to hear you will be at the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach this year. I attend every year, (I am addicted to Bass Fishing as well as rod building). I do not believe I have ever seen a rod component company at the Fred Hall Show in past years, which is amazing. I can't wait to check out the Revelation rod blanks to see how they compare to the Rainshadow RX8 & Rx8+.

Roger,
Thanks for posting the picture of the rod tip support stand. I have always struggled with wrapping the tip guides....'guess I've gotten brain dead in my old age! I'll have to build one today!

Scott,
As I recall, It only took a day or so. I e-mailed PDF Copies of my sellers permit and e-number and was able to make purchases the very next day. If your documents were submitted on a weekend, I would think you'd have to wait for the following business days.

530. Re: Spinning Rod
Daniel,
I would second the recommendation of the American Tackle Micro Wave Guides for a spinning rod. The guide sets come with the recommended guide spacing for various length rods and they cast great! As for a blank recommendation you can't go wrong with either a Mudhole Blank of a Rainshadow blank from Batson.

532. Re: mudhole
I too, have had an exceptional experience with Mudhole. I ordered an ATC tip top with a size 5 tube. When it came it would not fit the blank...too small. I re-check the blank to make sure it was a size 5. I then contacted Mudhole and they shipped me another size 5 tip top. When it arrived it would not fit either! I contacted them again via e-mail explaining the problem. The next day I received an

James,
I have applied Perma Gloss over Krylon Crystal Clear, which covered decals, without any problem. I tried it out first on an old rod blank before attempting it to see what would happen. It was fine; BUT, do not apply Krylon over Perma Gloss. It bubbles terribly ! I found out by accident!

Roger,
You would not be disappointed with the Rainshadow RX8 or RX8+ 822.5 blank. They are "killer" blanks. I have had all of my customer say how much they love that blank.

Roger,
I can relate to your inquiry. I have built on St. Croix, (expensive, but excellent performing blanks), NFC, (real expensive, but excellent as you'd expect from Mr. Loomis), Rainshadow and Mudhole's High Modulus blanks. IMHO you can not beat the Batson / Rainshadow or Mudhole's High Modulus Blanks for performance and price. I personal bass fish and have all of the blanks you mentioned; b

536. Re: acid wrap
Andi,
When I do a spiral wrap, I spiral around the blank in the opposite direction of the reel crank handle. I place the choker guide with the inside edge of the ring, in the direction of the spiral wrap, on the zero line of the blank. If that make sense to you. In other words: if I am spiraling the wrap to the right I place the stripper guide +/- 5 degrees to the left. This way the line will

I use ProKote exclusively and I spray all decals with two light coats of Krylon Crystal Clear before applying ProKote and that stopped all of the curling issues.

Steve,
I apply the rod description decal to all of my blanks, since my customers want them. I apply the decals directly to the blank and then give them a couple of light coats of Krylon Crystal Clear urethane and let it dry overnight. That way the decal will not curl and smear when applying a protective coat of epoxy. I have used color preserver and fixative to protect the decal from the fina
