That video was taken three years ago on a film trip to Puerto Vallarta featuring Black Hole Rods. The show was broadcast on national TV in South Korea. Last year we did a similar trip to PEI with filming by the same crew. There should be some youtube videos of that trip as well as this years trip just ended last week.

Mark, I am from the West Coast living in Torrance CA. I just happen to like to fish PEI and I have been using the acid wrap for over 15 years now. In fact, my good friend Jim Racela coined the term " acid wrap " when a deck hand on a west coast boat happened to see him fishing a spiral wrapped rod. His comments were that who ever built that rod must have been on acid thus the name.

After 4 years of using spiral wrapped rods in Prince Edward Island we have found that it works best when configured with short bent unibutts. We fish standup for these giant bluefin tuna and have caught them up to 900 lbs thus far. We fish using stand up harness and pads so the bent butt works the best over the straight butt. This is especially true when the fish is up and down and under the b

Blackhole Cape Cod Special blanks in the 450 and 250G are my favorites. I fish these in Puerto Vallarta every December for 100-300 lb YFT

I believe that most of the ferrules manufactured are inter-changeable. An Aftco or American Tackle should fit the PacBay.

There are more models of the Challenger Bank blanks than 3 depending on length and power. Best to call the distributor directly and ask them for more specifications and applications. I have not built any of these but have pulled on most of the models at the Fred hall Show where they were on display. Very powerful blanks.

Tap with your finger nails and listen to the sound. Try this with a known fiberglass vrs a known graphite and notice the sound. From then on, you will know the difference.

I do this all the time for making rings for ringing hooks. I use drill mandrels and a drill press for turning multiple rings at a time. It comes out looking like a coil spring. The ID of the rings are determined by the diameter of the drill mandrel. What are you making?

I doubt that Blackhole makes Bushido blanks. What makes you think that? Black hole does make a cheaper line in China under a different brand. All Blackhole Cape cod blanks come from Korea. I prefer the nano blanks over the graphite.

I like the old standby.... Hypalon foregrip about 14 to 18 inches in length and a protective coat of 3M cold shrink added on top of the hypalon. You are right, it is not built light weight.

A good idea is to find another piece of blank that will fit inside the blank and glue it in for additional reinforcement.

Alcohol lamp is all that is needed and don't get anywhere near the finish. Just radiant heat from the lamp is all that is needed.

Hello Spencer I am from So Cal too and have been wrapping for many years. Unhide your email so that me and others can send you a reply to your questions. There are rod building suppliers local to you that I can pass on to you by email.

You don't want to nick the blank. I have found that using heat from a hair dryer ( careful not to over heat ) will soften the epoxy enough so that I can pick at the thread with my fingernail and get a thread loose. Once loose, just keep adding heat and unravel the thread. I use the low setting on the hair dryer. Heat guns work but they produce a lot more heat so I don't use it. A small nick

I think that is is similar to EVA installation. Needs to be sized for a snug fit.

I did this to my homemade wrapper that I now use only for turning grips. But I mounted a DC motor on it. I had to wire a rectifier to convert from AC to DC and then the cross over switch to reverse directions.

I may be wrong but i think that you can only reverse a DC motor using that switch. Do not know what kind of motor comes with your Renzetti.

I sometimes use 30# mono that I make circular loops with using a knot like a uni that will slip and tighten around the guide.

I like to hide the ferrule under the fore grip. Just looks better to me. Having said that, I do wrap the ferrule first. Put a coat of epoxy finish over it and let it dry completely. Then I put the fore grip on over the wrapped ferrule leaving just enough space for the winding check. You cannot even tell that this is a two piece rod when it is assembled.

Look at the Blackhole 5 ft 2 piece blanks at Mudhole. I would get the 150 and 250 gram blanks. You can get a nice carryon case that will hold up to three rods ( conventional).

Using the 27x method, I find that I need a size 40 MNSG guide as the stripper. If I go with a K guide, I only need a size 30 or 25 because of the taller K guide. Will casting distance be better with the size 40 guide than a 30 or 25?
