Is there a "standard" or maybe accepted would be a better term of sizing guides for a fly rod when you know the length and wieght and the action?
Up until now I've always just used a chart or other info to Size the guides. Is there a better way? Here is my next project I what to build a fast action 9' 10wt for salt water I'm thinking: 1- 16mm stripper 1-12 mm stripper 4- size 4 snakes 4-size 3 snakes Does this sound right? I 've read use the smallest guides possible but what does that mean in relation to line wieghts? Thanks Re: Sizeing guides

the smallest guide possible imho is that of "take the heaviest line the rod can handle tie the biggest untidiest knot in it you can then pass it through the guide the one that JUST clears this knot is the smallest guide you can use" dont just tie any old knot tie a big nasty one to allow for others tieing them k#like it or to allow for a swivell etc Re: Sizeing guides

I'd use one #4 and the rest #3. My 10wt has #8 Ceramics which are the same ring size as a #3 wire and they pass every knot/loop connection I've ever tied with room to spare. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
