I have some of the Andy Dear saltwater specials here at the house that sound like they'd work. If this starts again let me know and I'll build some and donate others to the pool.

Give Andy Dear a call at Lamar fishing. The CTS blanks come in a wide variety of colors. The variety is better in the one piece blanks.

Tim, The Perigee blanks were I think discountinued because they originally made these "rodbuilder only" blanks in every style and type of blank. I have fly, livebait, surf,salmon/steelhead, bass and walleye rods in Perigee. They were also if I remember right a little spendier than they are now. When they discountinued them, the price dropped, lots more people tried them and really like

On a 13 ft rod, I'm not sure you'd notice that much difference. The Titans are heavier, spinning frames are lower, and the ring isn't SiC. You get what you pay for. The price is pretty much the same wherever you get either guide. The position you hold float rods, at least I hold mine pretty high in the air, helps with the tip heavy feel.

Real quick I can think of the brown Rainshadow RX7+, and the CTS blanks which you can custom section and color.

I have one of the older Perigee 5/6 rods and my son another, we haven't had a breakage problem. Also have a 9 wt that has been salmon stress tested many times. I like the Angler's blanks also, though I've never fished for the 4 wt. I think they are were built by GUSA, I know the Salt Stalker series were. If you aren't in a hurry the Dan Craft blanks I would add to the mix. The new FLTs are in a

Lamiglas makes a graphite boat/troll (GBT) or the Tri-flex composite (CGBT). Rainshadow also makes composite blanks.

They may have changed things in the St Croix line, but the 2S66MLF was pretty stiff tipped last one I fished with. Would be ok as a trolling rod, and as a rainbow/brown trout rod for larger fish in streams ( any fish that is large enough to start foraging on crawdads, minnows and chubs). A little to heavy for brookies and other higher elevation trout. I use the three piece travel ML St Croix as m

I have recently stopped butted the graphite directly against the reelseat with the black graphite tube, I've been putting a narrow black EVA ring in between, not because of the above problem, I've been just trying to leave nicer joints and to try to make edges little less abrupt and round the shapes a little for asthetic reasons.

Felt the same thing Emory, haven't noticed so much on the heavy stuff, but the steelhead rods sure are noticeable. We may need to design something like the japanese bass rods to stop it.

Doesn't the finish on the line get in your wraps? Just asking, that's one of the reasons I've never tried it.
Forum: rodboard

I wouldn't use it on anything but heavy saltwater rods, not even sure I'd use it if I underwrapped and finished my underwraps before putting the guides on. The wraps look coarser to me. G Loomis and some other factories use B thread on their rods.

I can think of quite a few that are fast actioned but they are 8 ft 6 in.,8 ft 9 in, 9 ft 6 in, and 10 ft long. Lamiglas salmon/steelhead blanks that end with a MT (Mag Taper) at the end of the part number.

Been a while since I had a XP in my hands, and the pictures I pull up aren't world class, but it kind of looks like the REC RFTS seat on the 7 wts to me. Am I close?

All the Rainshadow products I've used over the years have been a great value for the money, their quality is better than ok always. You also couldn't ask for better people to deal with after the sale.

There's the Rainshadow Musky/Saltwater graphite blanks, neither are exactly 7 ft, but that's fixable. Then there is the GUSA BSW70MH. The Calstar Grafighter GF 700L.

Is it a preformed grip? If so it will work, but you just need to encapulate the tape arbors in the rod bond, a bunch of epoxy in between will do nothing but waste your epoxy and add weight. If it's seperate rings and your building the grip than a long lengthwise strip of fiberglass dry wall tape wrapped on the blank impregnated with epoxy will make a good arbor to build up your blank to the OD yo

Another convert to the little 993 speaks. LOL. It may not be what a lot of people thinks is the ultimate length/action nowdays for fishing, but it sure a fun, sensitive, well balanced rod to fish.

When it was said and done, wouldn't you have the same thing as the static guide placement without you using the eyeballs you were given for free. Seems you'd have to bend each individual rod to get some info to put in your formula, it would be a very complex formula, get the results and than measure them out on the blank. Sounds like the same approach of making the line follow the blank curve und

Take a peek at the fly rod building site at www.theworriedshrimp.com, there are some ideas there that may help you. The lightest he has listed is a 3 wt, but it sure came out nice.

Ah! the old tip top don't fit routine. LOL. I have the blank supplier send me a tip top of the right prefitted size if I'm using guides I usually don't use much. I carry a decent selection of my usual guides, so I don't have this happen anymore. I started my collection by ordering one size up and down from the stated size, but it doesn't look like that would have helped you here.

James, flyanglersonline.com has an article done by one of their contributors who built a few TFOs. They would be in the product review archives.
