This isn't going to solve your current issue with UPS but I'd suggest from here on ship your rods in PVC pipe. Schedule 20 or sewer pipe will do just fine. The shipper can't put the package through the sorting machines, it has to be sorted by hand and since about the only thing that will damage it is running over it with a dump truck, you don't have to pay insurance. I've shipped many and never h

I have a blank #SWP70H-B, trying to find the specs on it. If anyone knows I'd appreciate the info. I'm guessing it's 20 to 50 lb. , #12 tip and .8" butt Thanks Phil

I'm going to be building a custom ice rod and know nothing about fishing through ice so I'm wondering about a few things. Which would be a better blank glass or carbon and what effects does the cold have on either? What is a good handle length from center of the reel foot to the end on the butt? What size spinning reels are normally used. Lastly, I'm guessing guides without inserts would be best

Appreciate it. I think I'll give it a go. Its pretty solid so I probably shouldn't be worried about it.

I have a customer who wants me to rebuild an old rod but wants a gimbal added to the wood grip. I'm not sure a wood grip can handle it without cracking under load so I thought I'd ask if anyone has tried it?

Does anyone know if FishHawk Metallic P #9326 red looks anything like Gudebrod #9326 HT Electra?

You shouldn't need to use heat. Try putting about 12 inches of thread in your mixing cup, stir it and don't worry about bubbles because the thread will pop all but a few. Once mixed bang your mixing cup on the counter 4 or 5 times, the heavy epoxy will settle to the bottom and bubbles to the top, most of which will pop. Breathe into the cup to pop the balance then apply. Take your time and only a

I think you'd be better off going to something a little heavier, 7'-12/20 line weight-1/4 to 1 oz. lure weight-med heavy. She'll have better control chunkin bait besides you can get blind sided at any time catching 26 to 28" fish then get hammered by a 20+ pounder. Matching that with a 3000 to 4000 size reel would be a good all around setup. You can chunk bait or throw lures and have enough

I paint everything I've built so I'll tell you what I do then you can decide if you want to tackle it. For paint I use automotive enamel and a urethane clear, both are durable and will hold up to abuse. Across the counter paints are not worth the effort and rarely produce good results. I'll prep the blanks by wet sanding with (usually) between 600 and 1500 grit wet/dry paper trying not to cut i

Im going to be building a spinning rod as a birthday gift for someone in Indiana who would use it for spec, bluegill, crappie. Not sure what type of fishing of that type are in the area and afraid to ask to many questions since its in a corporate office which is like Payton Place. I'm guessing a 6.5 foot 1/2 oz. Lure weight? That sounds short to me. Any suggestions on blank length, lure and line

I just finished a butt wrap with 40 but would have liked to use some 60 colors. I haven't mixed the two sizes and I'm wondering if it's a good idea or not.

Any of you mix and match thread sizes. Just wondering since there are more options for colors and if so do you have any issues.

I think your problem is to much thinner. My guess is the bubbles aren't from air but distillates trying to escape and getting caught in the hardened epoxy. I don't think you would need thinner. Most won't agree with this but I put my epoxy and hardener In the fridge for a half hour before mixing then do a quick mix and apply. Since heat cures the mix I feel it gives me a few extra minutes of a mo

It would be wise to use an automotive enamel along with automotive urethane clear. It lays on nice, hard, flexable and not easy to chip.

I need it for orange and blue Florida Gators theme. I may try gluing 1/8" sheet to a different color. Should be able to do it but it won't be fun.

If your going to paint a blank I'd suggest using automotive paint for its durability. Testors has paint in 3oz. spray cans or do a net search for automotive paints, there are some in spray cans.

I've used quite a few of the Testors colors with good results, it also dries hard. The spray cans are small so I'll buy 2. This way I'll have enough to spray the blank 2 or 3 times. It allows me to sand out any dings or mistakes. For the clear I mix 4 to 1 automotive urethane with a fast hardner. Its expensive but is a good protection against chips and uv light. It also gives other options like a

I tried Krylon paint and ended up re-painting a rod 3 times, thinking I had a bad can or didn't wait long enough to dry. The last time I left the blank in the sun every afternoon for 3 days to cure and still had problems. I went back to old trusty, Testors enamel. Its good quality paint and if you were to give it a coat of automotive clear urethane you'll never have any problems with it.

This may be late but consider the Alps Tri reel seat mounted down locking. Taper the rear grip to the seat hood starting aprox. 1 to 1.5" below it. Its very comfortable with no seat threads digging into the heel of your hand. With that reel, if wanted, you can cut 5/8" off the threads to shorten it.

Some of us tend to make this harder then we have to by over thinking and/or rushing the project. Take your time, don't put on to much product at one time and you'll be fine. To eliminate mixing bubbles I put epoxy in the corner of my mixing cup then take a large diameter paintbrush handle (about the diameter of a sharpie) and spin it rather than stir. I'm not comfortable doing a complete set o
