It will be a while before I build it, but just from bending it, there definitely is no shortage of power on it. Tip flex seems good for casting. It would be interesting to see how the power curve would stack up next to swimbait rods in the TackleTour testing format. It is straight. No defects that I can see. This kind of rod fits a niche of fishing I don't do much, but I see some good o

Your website says the NEO 765 is 2.0 oz, but the version I have is 3.285 oz. What is the correct weight supposed to be?

I had the same issues on a nfc 736. I had the foam crack off when reaming si ce the part the cap attaches to was so thin. I ended up fitting a paper thin graphite/foam arbor for the butt cap. Next time, I think I will use some thread to fill the gap. For the arbor, the thinner diameter portion of the arbor started to through before it would bit the blank.

For me, the St. Croix 7-0 mlf spinning blanks are just the perfect action for finesse fishing of any kind. Ned rigs, drop shot, etc. It does it all well. Probably not as soft of a tip as other dedicated drop shot blanks, but it still works well. It has handled almost all my finesse fishing duties for years. Really light jig heads get the SCV 7-0 LF st. Croix. This is a a great blank tha

He used both fluoro and braid on it already, both of which are known for transmitting vibrations well. So, he has those variables covered already.

Once I build my SJ 736 and MB 736, I need to measure them. They feel very similar now, but maybe CCS will tell a different story. I am not sure about the accuracy of North Fork's labelling and storage system though. They sent y XRAY drop shot blank with a SJ 736 tab and label on it.

The st. croix 7-0 mlf has been my favorite finesse bass spinning rod blank for as long has I can remember. That should sell very well for you.

I ordered from Northfork twice (2 blanks each time). Both times the tube was broken but the blanks were fine. I just hope that there is no unseen damage that shows up when I finally get them built up and fish next year.

My most recent order was for a X-ray dropshot blank and the sj736. Both came labeled as sj736's.

That is great news. That book got me started on rod building. I have not built a rod in awhile (probably about 6 years or so) but have some blanks on hand and want to update my arsenal again. I hope I can pick up where I left off. Thank you for all you have done for this hobby. I would have never gotten into if not for your book, this website, and the magazine.

Mad Dog primers are all exterior wood problem surface primers. They just got bought out and is now Dura-prime for the regular primer, topline primer. 3 or so other versions of exterior primer. Here is the line up prior to buyout: None suitable to rod building IMHO. Maybe there is another company with a completely different primer and a similar name.

I am a painting contractor. If the MadDog he is referring to is the same that I use for exterior painting, it would be an awful idea. Rod paint would be way too hard of a finish to put over Mad Dog primer. The manufacturer does not even want oil paint or glossy latex enamels over it. It is a primer designed primarily for exterior wood that is prone to peeling problems.

Count me in as a fan of the St. Croix ml blanks. I use them for dropshot, Ned rig/Midwest finesse style stuff, small crank baits, etc.

They seem similar to the mudhole MHX from the spec and to an american tackle line. Just from the specs, I have only held the MHX so far.

I would not think sanding graphite to "modify" the action of a graphite blank is a good idea. given how they are constructed and what you would have to sand through to change the action.

I just got my Dream Reamer kit yesterday and it looks great. Before, I had a reamer that I tried to make that was similar to the dream reamer, but had a hard time getting the sanding strips to stay on nice and smooth, especially at the tip on the smaller diameters. I also had the grit type reamer, but really do not care for those, especially when a piece of grit comes loose and is stuck inside

What wall thickness should I be looking for in Al? I have the Rodmaker article and just skimmed the library one quickly, and did not see the recommended wall thickness. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I do not have the proper length or diameter scraps around. The brass is tougher than the thin aluminum they had. All the Al was to thin diameter and walls, and bent very easily. I could check HD and Lowe's next though, if I have to.

I want to extend a imx sj6400 and my local hardware store does not carry suitable aluminum tubing, but they do have brass that is thin yet strong. Would this work for extending the rod blank as well as Al or would there be corrosion/tarnish issues that could affect long term durability?

If you have some Do-It-Best hardware stores near you, they have some epoxies that look very similar in composition to RodBond that you may want to check out.

I would not shoot it through an air brush. It would require far too much thinning. If you have an HVLP or conventional spray gun you could spray it that way if you are doing enough volume of handles to be worth the purchase (or an airless dedicated to alkyd clear finishes I suppose, but that would be pricey for a hobby). Harbor freight has some decent HVLP guns for $30-50 if you have an air co

I think they are not adding another line, but are updating there top-line rods, so there could be some clearance blanks. If you want to read up on them, there is a report on tackletour.com
